automatic transmission options for stock 352

I have been looking thru the forum for a while to read about the best way to swap an automatic transmission for the stock 3-speed (with OD) my truck currently has. I'm not necessarily looking to make the change, but I'd like to know what I'm in for if I decide to go that direction. Is there a place ...

I saw the top line of this thread and had to tell you all what I saw this weekend at a cruise-in. I drove my '66 and had to park it in a nearby grassy lot due to the ABUNDANCE of newer cars like PT Cruisers, Crossfires, etc. Of course they all had what I call "comic book wheels and tires" ...

I just sent you a PM.

yep -it was VERY hot in my shop and humid that day.
The vinyl seat was soaked and I was dehydrated by the time I installed the headliner.

wetting the back of the cardboard is the key.

Here are a couple of pics:

Glad to here you have completed this project and thanks for the tips.

There are 5 indentations on the back edge of the main large headliner piece so I used 5 clips at those locations.

'66 headliner tips

I posted previously about the problems I had installing a new headliner in my '66 truck. I received many comments and some good advice from other members here so I thought I'd post what I've learned. After breaking the middle piece (goes between the rear window and main headliner piece), I was able ...

thanks for all the hints! My large front/middle piece went in just fine. I then wetted the 2 corner pieces for about a day - it was also VERY humid outside. Those 2 corner pieces also went in just fine. It wasn't until I tried the piece above the back window that I had problems. I wetted it and ever...

I trimmed my piece down just a little. I trimmed it on the side that goes in the rubber. Mine went in but I did get little crack in it. A little trick I did was run gray duct tape all around the edges on the back of all pieces. Thought maybe that would help with the edges "chipping/breaking&qu...

broken headliner - UPDATE

I just contacted Dennis Carpenter (the makers of my headliner kit) and I can buy the piece I broke for $25.
I didn't have to buy a new kit.

They were very nice about it and very helpful.

so.....we'll try this again in a few days!

We put the lower part into the weatherstrip first, then pushed it back until it snapped into those devil clips. that's a very good description of those clips. That's what I tried to do but the headliner broke a chunk out of it where the clips were. I wonder if I bent the clips down a little so it w...

I did the same thing as Alan, the front and side pieces went in OK (at least my wife and I didn't kill each other, though it was close) but the rear piece is still not in (It's only been a year LOL). I didn't want to break it, but just couldn't get it down behind the rear window rubber and hook up ...

you could try what I did!, as they don't make envelopes big enough to have a new one mailed down here!, I covered the old one with a light grey felt that they use on head linings, used contact glued. That way all pieces will match! [img][albumimg]2551[/albumimg][/img] that looks nice! when you inst...

I am considering making one out of thin vinyl. Glad I haven't bought one as I am not patient enough. I really took my time and test-fitted stuff, etc. Everything went great until that last piece. patience really had nothing to do with it - it's just a horrible design: trying to make material perfor...

tape the backside of the hole area with duct tape, when you get it installed take a razor blade and cut out the hole. that's what I tried the first time. Then when I made another attempt, chunks of it broke out where I was trying to install it on those lousy clips. It has numerous tears and breaks ...

my old piece is in even more pieces than the one I broke.

what a mickey-mouse design!
I'd actually rather have no headliner but Ford had to make these trucks all "fancy-like".

Who needs a headliner in a pickup anyway?

broken headliner - augh!!!

I was given a repro headliner as a gift for my '66 F100. It was the 4-piece perforated kit from Dennis Carpenter. Well, I waited for a humid day, wetted the back of the cardboard, took my time, sacrificed some roosters, called upon the help of my ancestors, and ALMOST succeeded in installing it........

so just plug the vacuum line coming from the distributor?
doesn't the vacuum advance need that "signal" from the engine?
