If you like the gear ratio for cruising. Then the 4 speed is a good way to go. The new process 435 came in a lot of these trucks. Not sure how many came behind the 300 i6. If you can find on to match up to your 300, I say go for it.

Skip. I will probably have my alt converted to a 1 wire just to save myself some hassle. The new wiring harness does not have accomodations for regulator.

Voltage regulator

How important is the voltage regulator? I understand that it was put there for a purpose in 1966, but, I would like to get rid of the wires if possible. Can I remove it without the risk of ill effects? Note: the truck has been completely rewired with the use of a rebel wiring kit. Only have a couple...

nice work sarg. I am going to have to make a trip down to check out the truck. Maybe even in my pile of rust if I can get some wiring done. Looks like things are coming along nicely.

Sounds like you need a bigger hammer. Mine were a pita as well. I might have used a cutoff wheel too.

Looks like the same connector on the 73 column I have.

I am in the process of wiring up some lights as well. What color wires go to what on your column?

Sgart- Thanks for the links. All of the cab mounts look to be the same thickness. With the exception of the radiator support mounts. Those are "homemade" and will be the first place I look for some adjustment.

Thanks for the heads up. I will see if I can drop the front of the fenders. The cab mounts are brand new.

Will be trying the washer trick first.

If you think that is a mess, I wont show you the rest of the truck...

Nice work. I chose to go the expensive route and get one out of cali. Good to see some metal saved.

I was just checking on this thread a week ago to see how the progress was coming along.

Ezer- now that you mention that, it had a stack of 3-4 washers on each bolt when I took it apart. Of course I thought the previous owner was clueless and thought those washers were unnecessary.

Alan- I will try and get some pics tonight.

At least the new Goodyears look good on the old pickup.

Hood Adjustment

Tips for hood adjustment. I have it mounted as low as the hinges will allow and the back of the hood will not sit down on the fender or cab.

Are the hinges sprung?

That sounds like a decent idea. Not sure I would use the hood hinge bolts. Maybe make a bracket to work with the front cab mounts.

I agree I wouldnt count on the friends.

If you are willing to go 03, you might as well go 02 and get the 7.3. Personally I am big fan of the 7.3 and diesel in general, especially if you keep things forever like I do.

I am not sure either, but if it keeps the switch from shorting then it is alright with me.
