Re: Nor-Cal 1962 F100 4X4 Project

Not too much to report right now, been doing a lot of work on the Valiant.

Did pick up an Edelbrock 1406 for the F100, just need to get some base gaskets and get her mounted.

Re: Nor-Cal 1962 F100 4X4 Project

Got that last load of wood up the hill and off loaded. The 4x4 works great still. Can't keep that carb dialed in though, the floats won't keep their settings. Think I'm going to try an Edelbrock, never cared much for Holleys.

Re: 64 f100 "seabiscut"

That's a nice truck! I always liked those Y-blocks, strong little engine.

That's a common way to put dual exhaust on them, used to see it all the time.

Re: Nor-Cal 1962 F100 4X4 Project

Finished installing the new tank today. Installed an extra in-line filter under the cab, replaced the rubber fuel lines there while I was under it. Pulled the temp fuel cell. Worked on the carb some, got it pretty close to dialed in. Sounds pretty good. Took her around the block, first time on the r...

Nice truck. Could do without the big wheels and big price.

Re: Nor-Cal 1962 F100 4X4 Project

Almost forgot, stopped by pick n pull and scored a couple of door panels. Mine were home made wooden ones, PO had actually done a nice job on them, but moisture over the years caused them to get soft. When I started working on the truck I had to pull them to lube the window linkage and they were jus...

That sounds like a good idea, I'll do that when I put the tank in.

It's been raining so working on it has temporarily halted.

Re: Nor-Cal 1962 F100 4X4 Project

Pulled the old tank for the last time. Haven't installed new tank yet, took the time to clean some rust and dirt from the back of the cab and upper and lower tank mounts and then coated it all with rubberized undercoating. Looks good and shouldn't need attention again for a long time. Cleaned and re...

A Mercury F100, must be a Canadian truck!

Re: heater cores

Looking at the pictures a little more closely I can see the routing for the rearward pipe is different between the two styles making the newer style exit horizontally and the old style vertically. The forward pipe should be fine, but I'll have to either reroute the rear one or cut the pipe off off t...

Re: heater cores

Okay, I just ordered the 65/66 heater core, I'll post here how well it fits and what I end up doing to secure it when I get it.

Re: heater cores

I've never found the 61-64 core listed anywhere. RockAuto has the 65/66 for $31 so I think it'd be worth fabing up a mount to make it work in the early box.

But then the blower motor is NLA for the early box too so if a 65/66 box can be used instead it would open up parts availability.

Re: heater cores

This is good information, thanks! It raises a couple of questions as part availability for the early system is scarce. Since the dimensions (and plumbing apparently) of the 61-64 core are the same as the 65/66 with the only difference being the flange mount for the early core all you'd have to do to...

Well, the money sure wouldn't last a fraction as long!

Got a replacement fuel tank today thanks to a helpful member here! Thank you John!
Installing it will be my next step so I can pull the fuel cell I have sitting on the tool box.

Re: Cab Repair Sequence of Events - or, Did I mess up?

I would like to find the factory dimensions for the door openings. Will research here, unless someone has them handy? Thank you for all of the input...things are looking clearer. Time to go and have a cold one or 18 until the gaps look fuzzy and about right. Tom Damn, I've been missing out by avoid...
