Re: 302 engine perches

Grump, You may need to switch the mounts side to side and remember Ford offset the engine to the right. I used stock Ford mounts for my 460 install and did not need any new holes. The truck had a inline six from the factory. I'd just install the mounts on the engine, set it in and see where it lines...

Cars 3

Just saw Cars 3 with my Grandson. Enjoyed the movie. The pickup truck "Smokey" is driving me nuts. I know I have seen these trucks in my youth but I cannot ID the Smokey truck. Studebaker, International? Anyone know? Thanks.

Re: Hood worth saving, Or new hood?

That brace has a type of fiber between it and the hood. Long gone I suppose. You can slide in a replacement (asphalt shingle) or something similar. As far as the brace goes, drill the spot welds and take it to the bench for repairs. NBD. A tiedown strap can be used to restore the proper contour to t...

Re: Replace those old flexible brake lines!

Yes. Stopping is way more important than going. Having a good look at the steel lines is also a good idea, as these are susceptible to damage and rust.

Re: Brake Light problem

I would gently pull the firewall connectors, clean them and apply a little bulb grease. Usually these issues are related to the turn signal switch. You have already checked the obvious, jump the switch wires, replaced fuses and checked the tail light housing for a good ground. My nickel says it's th...

Ah ha! Most excellent. I think I might even have some of those trailer LEDs in a box somewhere. The orange Halos work but during the day they don't show up very well. Thanks Paul.

Air Conditioning

Has anyone installed the Vintage Air unit that is supposed to be a direct fit for our original heater assembly? I like the idea of electric servos for the heat control and blend door. Thanks.

Re: LED Headlights

Paul, I also removed my turn signal lenses on the 66 F100. I am using headlights with the TS integral to the headlight. They look nice and work fine but these lights do not provide me with the light I need for nightime driving. I would would like to use the fluted LED's. So what do you use for TS wi...

Re: Exhaust Control Valve 352

If you can open the valve cold by hand and it closes, it's working as it should. The bi-metal spring relaxes when hot and allows exhaust gases out with out back-pressure. This valve when closed forces hot exhaust gas through the intake manifold to heat the incoming air/fuel mixture and makes for a s...

Re: Vintage Air Gen IV

Great article and the photos really help. Someday I gotta learn how to post pictures. The main difference I see between the Compact II and the Gen IV unit is that the plenum for the larger Gen IV is on the end verses the Compact unit the plenum is on the top. I am concerned that the 4, 2 inch hoses ...

Vintage Air Gen IV

Has anyone here installed this system from Vintage Air in a 65 or 66 F Series? I've been researching this system and it seems user friendly and a fairly straight forward installation with minimal permanent changes to our old trucks. I would use the 4 tube plenum and run plumbing through the firewall...

Re: Ignition Timing vac/idle

Have you verified that the timing mark on the vibration damper has not slipped? 20 initial is a lot. Pull the valve cover and run no 1 up to TDC on the compression stroke and then see where the timing mark is on the damper.

Re: Ignition Timing vac/idle

Crane sells a vacuum restriction system that prevents excessive vacuum advance and spark knock. You should be able to set you initial advance to 6-10 with 20 centrifugal and about 4-6 degrees vacuum. What you are doing here is matching the distributors mechanical, vacuum and initial advance to your ...

FE won't fit your bell. This may be an opportunity to install a 460. Pretty much a bolt in deal with all Ford mounts and hardware. You already have most of the stuff you will need. Check out www.460ford.com for more info on these engines.

Re: Tell me about wiper switches....

I use a later Ford switch, intermittent relay and two speed motors. Harvested from a later truck or bronco these are basically a plug and play system with all Ford parts. These switches also have the washer circuit. I saw off the later knob and use a 66 knob so everything looks original except you g...

Re: Rear Axle Seals and Gear Oil

The wheel bearing will need to be replaced. This bearing is a press fit so you will need a press or take the axle to a machine shop. The oil soaked shoes will need to be replaced. After you have the axle out, look in the housing with a flashlight and you will see the seal. This is a messy job but fo...
