Re: '61 Uni restoration

As of this week the metalwork is done! Next step is final sandblasting of the interior, paint the underside of the body and drop it back on the chassis. It should be about 5 weeks of work left, spread out over a few months, with the hope of getting it home in late summer. :D

Re: '61 Uni restoration

Went to the shop yesterday and they made a lot of metal progress since last week. - The hood rust is repaired - The fenders are almost done - Doors are about half done - The inner fenders are rusted really bad, so I called Tom (6166 Junkyard Dog) and he's going to get me some good used ones. Thanks ...

Re: '61 Uni restoration

I just got back from the shop and the rust repair metalwork on the doors is almost done. Next comes the Hood, Fenders and Inner Fenders.

It looks like they're back in-gear on the truck, but still a ton of work left, though.

:D

Re: '61 Uni restoration

That bed turned out really good from the pictures Thanks ... They sure are good fabricators. It should look awesome when it's painted. I don't think I'll be hauling anything in it. SWEET CANT WAIT TO SEE IT DONE! Me too. Although, I'm pretty patient, since it's essentially been sitting since the la...

Re: '61 Uni restoration

Nice build! What is the bed floor from? Thanks for asking and sorry for long hiatus :( The truck has been in a holding pattern at the shop since October. They started with the doors last week (a little) and are waiting for warmer weather to be able to paint the bottom of the body. It's been been -1...

Re: Removing cab from bed 62 unibody

My truck was a complete rust bucket too. Although, since it's been in the family since new, I decided to fix the rust. I'm having a shop do it, since the rust was so extensive, and it's turned into a major project in terms of time and money ... way more than the truck will be worth than it's done. W...

Re: 61-64 F100 heater core replaced today for $28

Great post! I'm going to have to fix or replace my heater core on my '61 too. I remember when I took the truck home from Indiana to Michigan in 1980, from my Grandpa's farm, it was very cold and no heat for the long drive. So being 18 at the time, with no money, I took the core out and gradually for...

Re: '61 Uni restoration

Since last week the bed floor has been put in and a bunch of other little things. They really made a lot of progress. It will hopefully be ready for bodywork and paint in a week or two, at the rate they're going. http://olliesshop.smugmug.com/Trucks/2013-2014-Big-Red-at-Shop/i-dcxrFgP/0/M/20141029_0...

Thanks Nic ... I'm excited, since it looks like they're going to start working hard on it, now that all the summer projects are out of the shop. Hopefully I'll have a good update on Wednesday. :D

Thanks for the tip. FYI, here's the link to the knobs and the inserts. I think I'm just going to buy the inserts only as well ... http://dennis-carpenter.com/trk57-66dash-knobs/c/1017/sb/NAME/sd/ASC/pgnum/1/

Re: Who makes it?

Probably too late, but I could find one either so we're having to fab one up. On mine the very bottom 1/4" or so has holes in it. Hopefully it will be done in a week or so. BTW, the portion right behind the front panel is a completely rebuilt Torque Box, which was completely rusted out. http://...

Re: Forgot to tell everyone

That reminds me of when I got my truck STOLEN in 1986 I had the truck at my friends shop overnight and one of his ex-employees stole it one night. The next day we realized it was gone, when a lady called and said she new where my truck was. The thieves evidently threw the registration an insurance o...

Tom only sells the good quality stuff

Couldn't agree more!

I recently bought a bunch from Tom ... great to deal with and excellent quality. This included a all-vehicle rubber kit, and a used Radiator Mount (better than the new ones) and other stuff.

Re: New member, new build, new passion for Slicks!

Looks like a great project!!! Also, I just read you posts on the 8' foot bed weight and I agree with your stance. I did the same thing on my first car by dropping a 350 Chevy in a Datsun 240Z and man did it run good. Also I ended up working for General Motors for 30 years and my two classics are For...

Re: '61 Uni restoration

Went to the shop this morning and it's up front and actively being worked on. The bed floor should be in place today. They have a few small places to repair rust (hood, fenders, inner fenders and bed front panel) and then the bodywork should begin. Here's some pics. http://olliesshop.smugmug.com/Tru...

Well, it's been a while since the truck has been worked on (since April). But the shop brought it up to the front area today, from the sandblasting area where it was being stored. I'm pretty excited, since hopefully it be painted by spring! What ended up happening is the shop got so busy with Summer...

Re: 66 wiring schematic

i just went out there and now everything is acting all crazy. i think this is a ground issue. I had the same issue and it turned out to be the ground (on my '57 Bird). I had painted the tail lamp buckets (including the studs that mounted it to the body). So after MANY hours I figured out it was the...
