Slick Spotting in Philly

I was walking to the gym Saturday after work and saw this '65 in a parking lot- an unusual sight in downtown Philadelphia to be sure. Had California plates on it, looked very original, had a spotlight mounted behind the driver door up at the drip rail, and a custom cab interior. Looking at it I wond...

totally cool. I especially liked seeing those wooden spoked wheels being put together. I had read once Ford owned an immense tract of forest to provide wood for his vehicles.

Obsa, my deepest sympathies for your loss...they say time heals all wounds, hopefully this too won't feel so bad as time goes by. I use the handle "Beagle" after a faithful buddy of 14 yrs that I still miss 10 years later...

Bill

Who is the Miss Hurst Shifter we waited in line to see a few years ago? She's been doing that gig for years and still looked pretty good in person ...or maybe I'm just a lot less choosy after age 50!

Hey Vince Cool ride--- I always wondered who owned it, I have seen it at a few shows, could've sworn I saw it once in the breakdown lane of the Vine St. Expressway headed towards the Ben Franklin? I was heading up the I-95 on ramp, but like most guys on this board I think I can identify a Slick at 6...

Yeah lots of snow...even by Syracuse NY ( lived there 18 years) standards this is a crapload of snow...one nice thing , though, our town uses this 1956 International dump truck to plow the streets http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee76/barkingbeagle/OldIntplow.jpg http://i235.photobucket.com/albums...

In the late 80's I lived in a sketchier section of Syracuse. I'm walking to the bus stop early in morning as sun comes up, just as a guy opens the door to the local auto repair garage 2 blocks from my house; as the door goes up out zips 2 pit bulls running like shots straight at me, Im caught right ...

Well, I grew up in Utica and lived in Syracuse until '98... but it seemed like most of what you saw up there were Chevys or Fords with Chevy engines in them.. I even had a '52 5-window Chevy half ton before I moved here... Rich A 64 Step and a 61 Uni... neither one operating...but hope springs eternal

thanks for the post Phil; I read most of his books when back when I was in school, knew he survived Dresden but didn't know the extent of things until you posted that letter. Pretty cool to know the history, and gives insight to how badly POWs are/were treated despite the Geneva convention... Rich B...

I was intending to go with a 302 long block rotating assembly and using the good parts from the engine you see being assembled above to finish it-- planning also on a new timing cover and a heftier water pump than what it had-- its got the original radiator that the 292 was using, Sinc always had is...

got the truck and engine back into my garage today, the 289 sitting in the bed of the '64 http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee76/barkingbeagle/641-5-10.jpg I kind of like how low it sits with the weight of the engine in the bed... here's some shots of the block before we rolled it back in the garag...

302 or 351?

the rebuilt 289 in the 64 I got from Sinc is toast: cam failure, crack in the block, full of water, etc.... the engine is apart now, I'll post a pic when I get to the shop with a camera; it's got a lot of good parts on it still so I'm planning on getting a long block rotating assembly for a replacem...

Thanks for posting the link, looks like a great place to spend a few hours. Anyplace that displays old cars, trucks and airplanes together like that is pretty cool. A nice old diner nearby would make it a complete day trip for me.

Quad headlights weren't legal in all states until 1958...although they were Standard on some luxury cars like Imperials and Lincolns in 1957, sometimes you'll see an Imperial or Lincoln from '57 with the single headlamps on each side at a car show; - the Lincoln is over a smaller parking light.
