Re: Back up light suggestions?
I've used inexpensive "driving lights" from the auto parts store under the bumpers of my trucks and on company trucks for years. I run relays and a switch so they can be used when I need them.On my company trucks I wire a switch and piggy back them with the stock wiring,so I can have light...

Re: 4x4 hubcaps
When I ran hub caps on my 66 I took a pair of chrome dog dish hubs caps and a hole saw cut out the center and they looked pretty darn good.

Re: Old member back with a new truck
Dion, its a superlift item and I just called the them. They gave my to a tech guy and I explained what I was doing and he gave me the part #,you will need the bolt kit as well since our trucks brackets are riveted on. Check out old catalogs for the bob tail Broncos as they have kits for disc brakes ...

Re: Old member back with a new truck
I ended up with 7 degee bushings and that wasn't enough, ended up having to use a 2" radius arm bracket from super lift to get it back in spec since I have 2"rancho springs as well.

Re: Old member back with a new truck
Wo Hey Norm, Welcome back from another 4x4 owner... I've got a '66 F100 4x4 Styleside long box. I've done the PS conversion on my truck already and am currently getting all my ducks in a row to swap front axles so I can have discs on the front. In response to your question about whether 4x4s are mor...

Re: 64 or 65/66
Being a long time owner/builder of these truck with and for my daughters I'll drop me 2 cents in. 65/6 definately offer the best in swap-ability parts and ease of finding them. Steering and brakes being the main issue. My youngest drives a 64 short with a 302/AOD and no power steering cause I feel t...

Re: Factory rear bumpers
From what I have learned was that the trucks for the most part were shipped with out bumpers unless you ordered the sport bumper for the styleside trucks. Most of the trucks I've seen had the bumper like you have and were either dealer installed or by a local shop. I say keep what you've got and rat...

Re: New Guy New Truck! 1966 4x4
The inside step continued thru 66 in F-250 4x4's and to 65 in F-100 4x4's. The 66 F-100 was the first to have the 2x4 body, coil springs in the front and the single range DANA/Spicer 21 transfer . I run 255/85/16 radial Kelly's they measure 32.5 on the truck.

Re: New Guy New Truck! 1966 4x4
I don't "know" how hi they are supposed to be but mine won't fit into my garage with 255/85/16 tires on it and the garage door is 6'11" clear and the clearance lights would hit the door frame. Kinda like it that way too. If I "have to " get it in I just pull the valve stems ...

Re: Regearing the '65
Ouch that is not good.... guess I did real well when I did my 64. BTW I really enjoyed the tear down/rebuild you did, thanks.
Another approach you my or my not want explore is a taller tire, but I have to say I like the look of your truck the way it is.

Re: New Guy New Truck! 1966 4x4
Just leave it the way it is ,it looks good !! That way you can impart the knowlege you've gotten here to those who don't know LOL I personaly like the way it looks now. It would be a good match for my 66 F-100 4x4, like a big older brother.

Re: Regearing the '65
Have you looked at swapping in an AOD. I got mine and granted tied it to a 302 for under a grand. I've see adapters to FE's for the AOD on the net. I have 3.89 gears and 255/75/15's on my 64 and it runs down the highway turn 2600 rpm at 85. Just an idea.

Re: New Guy New Truck! 1966 4x4
First of welcome ,it's always good to see another 4x4. I looked at your photobucket pictures and I think I have a theory on the bed question. In one of the frame pic's you can see some bolt holes in the frame. It reminded me of what a buddy of mine did with his 64 4x4. Since he hated the "wrong ...

I grew up in Clarkston about 30 miles south of you right off I-75 .Moved to Traverse City in 78 and that's where I found my first slick. Been in Colo. since 81. By the way you have a very unique 66 4x4 !

Re: 61 - 64 radiator core support to mod for a 66 4 x 4
Sorry if I came off harsh but growing up in the Detroit area and seeing what imports did to the big 3 and my home state,I'm pretty judgemental about low qaulity imports. Like the old saying if youwant oats that have been through the horse they are cheap,if you want oats that haven't been through the...

Re: 61 - 64 radiator core support to mod for a 66 4 x 4
Ice man has it right . Even if it's got a little rust it can be repaired for less than the purchase price and shipping and add the fact that it is made on the original stamping dies and made in the USA, it's no brainer.
