460 Timing
Intetresting you mention the ignition switch. I replaced the switch a few weeks ago because the old one was plain worn out. The key would fall out everytime I stepped on the gas. The new switch sticks so I have to quickly return the key to "run" position. But I did go for a drive and it is...

Insulation tip
I had a couple of Early Broncos a few years ago and I used a sticky-backed closed cell foam. I stuffed it in everywhere I could - inside the doors, pillar posts, side walls. Stuff worked great. Since my source for this foam "dried up" I 've been using a jute pad with the aluminum foil on o...

Tire fitment
Greetings. Like you I have found this to be a great website. I have '66 lb under which I can only have 75 series tires. I think they are 275x 15. I also have a '66 sb under which I was able to fit 60 series tires. The difference is that the lb has a wider rear axle than the sb, about 4 ". This ...

DIY Bed liner
I had Rhino Liner installed in my '66 lb 10 years ago and it is still doing a great job. But that was when I had lottsa extra change. I would be interested in this diy kit especially since the Rhino liner and others cost over $400. I have a "66 sb that has a painted bed but I been thinking abou...

460 Timing
OK. I think I got it. I put in Seafoam and then checked the timing. It was at TDC How the heck could that be? Then my good friend reminded me that I pulled the distributor to prime the engine just before putting it back on the road. So I set it at 8 - 10 btdc and boy did it perk up. I'll be driving ...

Timing issue
The backfire occurs after I shut the engine off. And I have not tried premium gas but I will on the next fillup.

Timing issue
I had suspicions that the carb was to big. I have a 670 cfm on my 429 and it works great. Thanks for all of the advice. The more the better.

Timing issue
The engine does not burn oil and the plugs have less than 500 miles on them but Ill check them out. I bought a can of Seafoam last year and forgot about it. So I'll try it out after I clean the plugs. I haven't checked the timing in years so I should do that to see if changed from when I last set it...

Timing info
My 460 is a 73 block with '76 heads which are low compression 8.5:1. The carb is a 750 cfm and the engine was rebuilt to oem specs. It has about 12,000 miles on it since the rebuild. I have replaced the metering rods to lean out the carb and up until a year ago it ran great with 85 octane fuel. Then...

Horn button
I installed a ww washer switch that also activates the ww pump by pulling on the knob. Then I used the black push button ( which had been used to activate the ww pump) to activate the horn.

Timing on my 460
I have a relatively stock 460 in my '66 slick with headers, electronic ignition and 750 Edelbrock. My elevation here is 5ooo feet. What would be a good timing number? I had been setting it at 8 BTDC degrees but I'm getting dieseling and an occasional backfire. Oh, and I have a leaky exhaust header c...

Radiator problem, temp gauge, leaking blah blah blah
The sending unit that's in the truck now has been there for 10 years or so. Then the truck sat for a year or so. I happen to have an extra sending unit so I'll put that one in and hope it works.

Radiator problems
Well, I put the new cap in place and removed some of the coolant as one member suggested. It works! I do believe that I had too much coolant in there. But the gauge still only reads 140 degrees. I know the engine is running 190 using a laser temp gun. Is it possible that the sending unit could be th...

Headers for '66
I have a '66 sb with a 429 and a '66 lb with a 460. I installed Sanderson coated headers in both and they are great. The only issue I had was that I've had to replace the collector gasket 3 times over 10 years on the 460. I have used 3 different manufactures' gaskets and the graphite crush gaskets s...

Radiator problem, temp gauge, leaking blah blah blah
I bought a new radiator cap, will try it out later today. I also will check out the sending unit. If all this fails I'll backflush the whole system and start over. I installed a 16 psi cap.
Thanks for the replies.

2 speed wiper vs 1 speed.
My '66 custom cab has a 2 speed wiper and my regular cab has a 1 speed wiper. I found that I could modify the bracket holding the 1 speed motor to accommodate a 2 speed motor and it worked out well. Obviously I had to use a 2 peed switch.

Radiator problem, temp gauge, leaking blah blah blah
I just got my '66 back on the road. Had it repainted, new interior, really freshened up. But The temp gauge was only reading 140. I had good heat, coolant seemed to flow well. I changed the thermostat and the same thing happened. Then coolant started to leak out of the radiator cap. So I changed cap...

Grille rehab
I finally bit the bullet and polished the stripped grille with my buffers then finished it off with Blue Magic. It came out pretty good although you can see a lot of scratches but it does shine and looks a heck of a lot better than it did. The best part is it didn't cost but maybe $10 in material an...

I have a '66 lb. I put a roll pan in that I bought from Sir Michael's. It fit perfectly. I then installed a flip down license plate braket and welded in a receiver hitch so I could pull a trailer. When not pulling a trailer, I just remove the ball/shaft and flip up the license plate. The roll pan - ...
