My slick needs help

Took my slick out today. While shifting from 2nd to third, my shifter poped out. I managed to get the transmission in third and drove it home. Is this something a novice can fix or do i need to bring it to a shop. I have a 66 f 250, 2wd, 352, 4 speed. Any input would be helpful thanks
