I believe I read somewhere that the 65 grill was not made after september 1965, and that the new 66 grill was used after the 65 stock was used up, so it is possible to have a 65 model year with a 66 grill.

my first 65 had major wheel hop issues, around 350-400hp ran low 13s on street tires, wish I had known about these back then. If you don't mind me asking what is 'pretty expensive'?

Had time today to do a little more, test fitted the fender and support, put in self tapping screws for the spot welds, and filled in the remaining gap. after first fitting I found that the curve on the inner fender did not match the outer fender, so a little hammerring and bending I think I have it ...

I have been debating whether to add this trim to my 65 but I would like to know how difficult it is to add to a truck that didn't have it originally?

redid some welds today, will post pics Wednesday, tried your suggestions and worked a lot better, only one other item I will need to help is an auto darkening helmet.

Thanks for all the advise I will be giving it a try again tomorrow while I wait for another repairman, when it rains it pours, TV this time. I need to tweak the support a little more so I will try turning down the speed a little and do the spot weld technique and see how it goes.
