Nice Cover for Sale

I have a very nice cover that fits our trucks for sale. I used to keep the truck in a rented garage that was full of ding hazards...plus a landlady and her friend that were not as careful as I would have liked....so this cover protected my truck from minor dings from bikes, lawn equipment, etc. It a...

Re: Original Seat?

I had an original seat for my 66 but it was trashed. I got a new seat but the cover was red...not what I needed. I took the seat and cover to a guy in Westfield, MA (I can come up with the shop name if you are in the area). He had some reproduction vintage stuff...like that plastic/vinyl weave they ...

Re: Dennis Carpenter, Carolina Classics, Mac's, or?

I'm just gonna add a little caution here.... I found myself ordering parts I didn't need or that didn't work. Dennis Carpenter's return guy always seemed like it was a PITA for you to call and return stuff. At Mac's it was a much friendlier exchange. I found that I had to return a number of parts to...

Clunk Behind the Seat

Hello Guys and Gals. Beautiful weather in Wisconsin and my truck arrived from Connecticut in fine shape. This is the project that I restored over there (childhood home) wiht my brother; decided I had enough fun driving it where I grew up and shipped it to where I live. This is the one that USED to h...

Re: Fuel Odor in Cab - FOUND IT

Hey Gang, Thought I would update the status of this problem. When I originally posted this issue I got a number of suggestions on where the source was. It took me a while to get back to the truck and yesterday we were going to do a soapy water leak check along the top seam, sending unit cover, fille...

Re: Fuel Odor in Cab

Thanks. I am certain I am not over-filling the tank...only put in a few gallons at at time. Going to the Secret Location (garage where I hide this truck) in April to take her out...I think maybe a soapy water check with a little air pressure in the tank might identify a pinhole leak...good thought. ...

Re: Sparks in the Fan Switch

That all makes sense. It doesn't get hot so that's not a worry. Perhaps I'll see if there is anything I can clean on it, clean up the contacts. Thanks for the input.

Fuel Odor in Cab

Yeah, I'm the same guy with the sparky heater switch...so you can imagine my concerns over a fairly strong raw fuel odor I've had in the 66 cab since I finished the restoration a couple years ago and started driving the truck. I've checked all the standard stuff to no avail and really would like to ...

Sparks in the Fan Switch

About the last time I drove my fully restored 66 last year I turned on the heat and fan for a bit. When I did this I noticed a pretty powerful spark coming from the hole the switch shaft goes into (this is the combo switch...turn the knob for fan speed, pull for defrost (I think).) Anybody have a cl...

Re: Spark and Fuel But This Cylinder is On Break...Ideas? UP

Finally got back to the truck (it does not live where I live) and did a compression check. Sure enough...ZERO compression on the #1 cylinder. We followed the book procedure for adjusting the lifters and voila! Now #1 has the same compression as the rest of his siblings. Tomorrow morning we'll put it...

Re: Spark and Fuel But This Cylinder is On Break...Ideas?

Thanks guys. Have done some of this (new plug, wire, etc.) but not the test. Heck, I ran out of time and wasn't able to take the cover off and have a look...that's on "the list" for the next truck work day! Appreciate all the help.

Spark and Fuel But This Cylinder is On Break...Ideas?

Hello Gang, So I've been on here braggin about getting my 66 on the road...it's been fun to drive and it has drawn a lot of looks and several "mind if I take a picture"s... On the way up a hill today the truck was very doggy...felt like it was missing pretty bad. Oh the flats, going fine. ...

Sometimes It's the Simplest Thing...

So today I'm driving my 66 back from the first car show it's been in (and the first show I've had a vehicle in.) Longest distance I've driven it, actually, about 15 miles from the garage to the show. Ran pretty good going over there though seemed under powered...but on the way back it stalled out at...

Re: Drive Train Noisy When Coasting

Thanks Guys.. We did replace the pinion gear at the beginning of this project. The truck also sat for about 15 years (other than a few moments of driving about 3 mph from the garage to the front lawn and back) so rust could be the problem. I'll suggest these things to my Able Bodied Auto Assistant (...

Re: How to Install Accelerator Pedal Spring

Thanks for the replies, guys. I have the spring near the carb and of course the throttle retard spring ON the carb...but it is the pedal that is giving me fits. I have some various sized spring clips that I'm going to try on the pedal tomorrow. One way or another THIS truck is going to the show this...

Drive Train Noisy When Coasting

So I've declared my 66 road-ready and we've taken it on a few short drives... It's been 15 years since this truck went more than 5mph around the yard (no brakes) but she drives nice... Here's the issue: Under power (accelerating or at constant speed) the drive train sounds as it should. On coasting,...
