Here's a pickle.
It isn't stuck; the brake booster is too strong. It's applying the brakes all by itself.

sticking brake booster
It came to me seized. I squirted silicone in there, and it got it free, to a point. I had it to where it would spring back slowly, over about ten seconds or so. Then it sat for a day or two and now it's stuck in the down position again. It's my 66 F-350. Am I going to have to pay through the nose to...

Re: 1966 F-350 verywrongbed
The FEMA gasifier from the Reagan era? You could run an engine on it for a week or so before everything ends up messed up from the tar that'd come from it. I was going to run with an Imbert-style downdraft gassifier wroth a monorator-style hopper. Then again, I'm still trying to get the brakes worki...

Re: 1966 F-350 verywrongbed
Glad to see you can move the truck now. My buddy and I are "trying" to do this on an early 70's jeep plow truck. And by trying I mean we planned to do it, got the info, pulled the bed off, and then got distracted by something else made of metal. I think it'd be extremely useful to success...

Re: 1966 F-350 verywrongbed
Updates, updates. It took forever to find it, but the cause of all of our clutch woes had to do with whoever replaced the clutch last time. The part of the linkage that pivots? It wasn't attached on one side. I'd say it was pointless to pull the transmission and look at what seemed to be a brand new...

Re: Early Budd tubeless wheels and radial tires
It's more than a year later, and I'm reviving this thread. The wheels on my truck couldn't be salvaged. Significant parts of the lip where the ring attaches were simply gone. They were a ticking timebomb, and it's fortunate that they didn't kill anybody. I ordered a pair of wheels from a junkyard in...

Re: Truck names?
My truck has a late-'70's bed on it. It matches even less than the fridge beds on the earlier slicks, hence Verywrongbed.

Re: Early Budd tubeless wheels and radial tires
I've got a plan. While I rub my hands together and laugh maniacally, I'll tell it to you. I found an agricultural equipment guy who's willing to pull the wheels apart. He'll only reassemble them if he's reasonably sure they're safe, and I wouldn't ask for anything else. The disassembled wheels will ...

Re: Early Budd tubeless wheels and radial tires
Nuts. I've got widowmakers.
I have no idea how I missed that seam every time I looked at the wheels.
I'll have to see if any of the local tire places are willing to mount on the split rims. Failing that, I guess I'm going to see about laying hands on two more of the one-piece wheels.

Re: Early Budd tubeless wheels and radial tires
A picture is worth a thousand words. Could you guys post a picture of the wheels? I will be helping a friend part out a 64 this spring, and it has the big 6 lug and is also a dually. It would be nice to know what we have so we can find some one that needs them. It'd help if they didn't mostly look ...

Re: 1966 F-350 verywrongbed
Search Iceman6166 for lots of good info. He has been AWOL for a while, but has left us an immense legacy. Random thoughts: Might want to research DOT 5; I don't use it on our vehicles. Too late now; but a stuck clutch can sometimes be broken free from an "induced shock". Good luck! Paul T...

Re: Early Budd tubeless wheels and radial tires
I've been reading this forum for 10 years and this is the post that finally got me to register. I have a 66 F350 too. I had a 63 F100 before that. I've collected 5 of the "big six" tubeless rims over the years and am still looking for one more because my truck is a dually. They are rarer ...

Re: 1966 F-350 verywrongbed
Between work and weather, I've only had two chances to do anything with the truck since my last post. The new fuel tank and lines are in. The new glove box is also installed. The bench seat is back in, and lap-belts are present for all three seats. The PO didn't disable the heat, but rather made it ...

Early Budd tubeless wheels and radial tires
I'm hoping to find a straight answer where there might be none. My '66 F-350 has four of the early Budd one-piece tubeless wheels on it. I just ordered two more from a junkyard. The completely dry-rotted tires on the truck right now are bias ply. What I want to put on the truck are Treadwright's rad...

Re: 1966 F-350 verywrongbed
I seem to be having an electrical issue. When the key's in the on position, I hear an intermittant click or p-ting sound from the extreme driver's side of the dash, behind or above where the key is. The ammeter twitches with it. When it goes on, it's the click. When it goes off, it's the pting. This...

Re: 1966 F-350 verywrongbed
That bed looks like its from a Super Camper Special. They had a longer wheelbase to help with towing. Because the rear axle was back so far the spare tire was placed behind a bedside panel on the front passenger side of the bed. I think I can see the bulge in the inner sheet metal of the right beds...

Re: 1966 F-350 verywrongbed
The intermittant miss on the passenger-side bank keeps the truck from idling below 700 RPM. I have the service manuals on disc, but I couldn't find the idle speed anywhere. Thanks for putting me straight. I made some progress on the truck today. The stuck driver's side door was getting old fast, so ...

Re: 1966 F-350 verywrongbed
Thank you. I'm quite happy to be mad here. I've had good luck with denatured alcohol soaks for generator carbs at work. It's just about the only thing I've found that will cut through the varnish. The duel pot master is a definite yes, though I have some questions coming up. Welcome to the madness N...

1966 F-350 verywrongbed
Greetings fellow bipeds! Also, a big thanks to the Admin for letting me in. Last weekend my wife agreed not to leave me if I bought a certain old truck. We'd had a very bad experience with a 1971 F-100 that turned her off from that generation, specifically, and made her wary of old trucks in general...
