Re: I need opinions on engine choice

Unless you want to build a 390, 410 (w/ a 428 crank) or 445 stroker, skip tge 360. I love the FE and they can run really smooth. But a stock 360 has such low cr I would run the 302... You have it. Or, like in my case I kept the 240. It runs like a top. A rebuild should not cost you more then $1700 o...

Re: manual drum/ drum brake dual master cylinder conversion

At a minimum you, may need to ad a proportioning valve on the rear breaks to be sure the that you can fine tune the rear pressure down to avoid the back end padding the front end in a panic stop. What are your bore diameters in the master you have? Also, do you have a residual pressure valve both fr...

Re: engine preference??

I say given those choices, the 390. So easy to go up to a 416 CID or even a 445 CID later. Sure i kept the 240 in my truck because i decided to keep this one original, but my last ride had a 416, and i loved it. With the Holley it went faster, but with an edelbrock carb i was able to eek out 15.5 - ...

Re: OD tranny for a 352...

I think he car big block overdrive is a T85/R11 and the truck overdrive is a T89/R11 with the u-joint bolted to the trans.

Maybe slightly lower first gear in the truck model, not sure. I may be mistaken.

Re: Engine Choice Ideas for my 66 F100: original spec 240 au

My carb is a later model that does not have that variable vac advance. It'd date tag says 73 or something. Ah right, choke tube fresh air, I wondered about that, it's been a while since I worked on one. I will play with my sender and gauge again some time and see if I can get it to work. Next big st...

Choke and Ignition Timing Curve Questions

Thanks for your tip about the choke! Everything is stock, and i looked at the exhaust manifold and it has a big hole, the size of my finger in it, does not have the insert that i saw in your tip page that you put the brass set screw into. (I do have the stock mechanical linkage/bell crank for the Au...

Card.

I have a 1970s 1940 Holley on the truck, it's manual choke. (No heat riser)

My spare CY carb is from a 74 f250 I think and it's both electric and hear riser choke.

Update More 240 improvements!

Just wanted to give an update in the trusty ol' 240 that is in my truck. (Since the 240 Option is winning, I thought i would try to make it run better, and it is.) So far i fixed a couple vacuum leaks, Rebuilt the C4 trans (last summer), rebuilt the stock 1940 Holley (but i think i have a minor leak...

Later model steelies from ford or dodge will work with disks. I got dodge wheels from an 80's ram truck.

Re: Dilemma what Carburetor to use

I like the 60's Autolite 2100's. Readily available, good on gas, easy to work on. But what you have should work also if clean and rebuilt.
Unless you go 4v, then an 400 or 500 CFM autolite 4100 is good. 1.08 diameter should be fine.

Re: Engine Choice Ideas for my 66 F100: original spec 240 au

Hi Eric! Yeah I thought long and hard about putting my spare FE in with a TL trans (or get a C6 or the cruzo I gave away)... But decided against it for this truck. Then I thought about using the 289 from my Galaxie but it's a 5 bolt block. I don' t want to cut the floor for a stick either. I am surp...

LOL see my post/poll about engines for my 66!

what gears are in your 240 truck now. My last two trucks have had 3.50s. The big block truck i had (416+three on the tree) could have lived w 3.25s, although the 3.50s had great around town power. But the 240 NEEDS the 3.50 gear (even with the torque multiplication of an auto.) I think it would be t...

Another Question: Rear Leaf Springs...

My 66 truck appears to have a broken/collapse passenger rear spring, as the truck has a lean back to that side. The stock springs are 6 leaves (5+helper). I picked up a set of 1964 short bed springs, they are 7 leaves (4+three helpers.) Research on line said my stock springs are rated at 950 or 1050...

What seat is in that truck?

What seat do you have in that truck.

Great work, the truck looks great and is solid. Is that a cleveland 2V motor? Anything special in it?

Re: lost (But not gone!)

I agree, if you take your time to rebuild the brakes, new wheel cylinders (not expensive) good shoes, drums turned round, replaced if warn, and new rubber hoses and a dual master cylinder, that truck should stop well. (er well enough that is.) its still a heavy 4x4, so stopping distance is always mo...

Engine Choice Ideas for my 66 F100: original spec 240 auto

I normally like manual trans old cars, but this little F100 short bed stepside, was a city work truck and came with a broken green dot truck C4 when i got it. So i had the C4 rebuilt, and the little 240, although shakes a little at idle (like and old tractor), does run smooth, but does not pull very...
