Re: Is base/clear paint more forgiving?
Grump- I have been using a 3M Half Mask that is fairly soft vinyl and has a good tight seal. It has the 6000 series filter cartridges. The flow is not yet restricted but I think I,ll do some research and choose some new filters for it before I paint again.

Re: Is base/clear paint more forgiving?
Bruce- There won't be much issue with transition lines between two tone colors on my truck, because I will put all the trim back on over the color breaks. I was more concerned with painting the fenders inside and out, hood, bed, tailgate, cab, all at different times before re-assembling the truck. I...

Is base/clear paint more forgiving?
Ok, I admit it, I consider myself a "barn yard" painter. Although I have painted many tractors, farm implements, and dump trucks, they were everyday work vehicles and I wasn't too upset when I had to pick a crawling bug out of my fresh paint, or wound up with orange peel or gloss that was ...

How much gloss in engine compartment?
66 F 100 --- Just got my fender liners, radiator support and battery tray back from the sand blaster. The parts were all factory black, but what was the factory sheen? Full gloss? Semi? Also, what is special about paint called "chassis black"? I will make modifications to the truck for com...

Re: Sand Blast Hood
Maybe I don't need remote supplied air for my small projects lasting 30 minutes or less. I have a good respirator. Perhaps I just need to make sure that the filter cartridges are appropriate for silica dust.

Sand Blast Hood
I'm looking for a better sand blast hood than the rag that came with my harbor freight blaster. I'm thinking I can supply filtered fresh air from a small compressor placed far away from where I am blasting. I'm willing to spend a couple hundred bucks max. What are you using?

Re: Blasting, sand? soda? glass media?
Went to a local shop today that builds trailers and truck beds. They also do sand blasting. They said they would be happy to do "hard items" such as chassis and wheels, but like others have advised me, they were afraid that sand blasting body parts would do damage such as warping. There ar...

Blasting, sand? soda? glass media?
I am ready to start dis-assembling my 66 for restoration. It is in unaltered original condition , nearly rust free, and is wearing only it's original coat of paint. I am thinking to remove the bed, fenders and hood, and all trim. I may or may not remove the cab from the chassis, and currently hope t...

Upgrade seats
My 66 is so pure stock and unmolested that I have been torn between pure stock restoration and various non-stock upgrades. However, after driving it a while I realize that alterations for safety, -- (like discs and dual master cylinder), drive-ability,---(power steering), comfort, -- ( air, good sea...

Crown vic VS twin I beam
You may have read my posts about trying to find a 73-79 donor truck to gain power steering on my 66 slick. Around here, donor trucks are hard to find and crown vics are plentiful. The more I read about the crown vic swap, the better it sounds. Also, I keep reading how much handling improves with the...

What pulley drives the power steering pump?
As I look for a donor truck, or parts package to get power steering for my 66 1/2 ton V8, some basic first questions come to mind. My truck has a a 2 groove crank pulley, a 2 groove alternator pulley, and a 3 groove fan pulley, all currently driven by 2 matching belts. The empty 3rd groove on the fa...

Identifying FE Engines
I have a stock 66 half ton custom cab. I assume it is a 352 because I think I read somewhere that was the only V8 offered in 66. Is this true? Also, are there any visual differences between a 352 and a 390?

Re: Is distributor off 1 tooth?
Toyz -- I'm pretty sure it was a Pertronix I, The truck still has the resistance wire from ignition switch. Voltage at the coil with the engine running is around 7 volts. Voltage during cranking is closer to 12. Your comment about quickly burning up points brings up and old question. On several of t...

Re: Is distributor off 1 tooth?
End of story! -- Took out the Petronix, put in a new set of points and condenser. set idle timing at 8 degrees BTDC. Now I can reach thru window, bump the key, engine is purring. I think Skid and LM14 missed my point.--- When engine timing was set correctly, the rotor was so far past the correspondi...

Re: Is distributor off 1 tooth?
Thanks, all---- I'm just going to go "old school" for the time being and go back to a set of points and condenser. That way, I will know where the rotor is when the points start to open! I may put the Pertronix back in later. Also-- What is the idle speed and degree advance to set the timi...

Is distributor off 1 tooth?
I recently bought a 66 f100 with a 352. The ignition points have been replaced with petronix electronics. The truck has been hard to start every since I brought it home. Carb is new rebuild and not the problem. I have not checked ignition timing yet, but once truck is started. It runs pretty good wi...

Re: 352 starts and dies, starts and dies.
Hmmmm- Reply from Toyz has got me thinking----- First of all, the choke is now fully manual and can be completely closed with or without even depressing the gas pedal. So I guess the high idle screw in not in play. Electrical? I wonder---- I have other engines around the farm that that feed full vol...

352 starts and dies, starts and dies.
Bought a 66 f100 about a month ago and only have had very little time so far to check it out. Any thoughts about this issue--- 352 automatic, 2 barrel Holly. --- If truck has been sitting more than a few hours or days, it starts instantly, runs one or two seconds and dies, does this 5 or 6 times unt...

Re: Looking for an original 66 seat
Perhaps another angle -- Is there a junk yard Ford steering wheel that fits, and has a smaller diameter or shallower dish? Not willing to pay $300 for an aftermarket right now.
