Re: Transmission Identification

Thanks for the tips. I have a little while before I'll have to do much fab work and I may end up swaping in a 302 while it's all apart just so an efi conversion should be easy.

Re: 65 redhead steering box in a 64 w/ new column

I've solved this problem by picking up a crown Vic front end Saturday. Unfortunately I've brought on a few new ones. Like rear axle options to match lug patterns as well as attaching a power steering pump to a motor that never had one. It's a 223. And running a drive belt for said pump. Etc. more th...

Re: 65 redhead steering box in a 64 w/ new column

I'm hoping to avoid power steering actually. I would prefer to stay manual. Mainly because I l don't want to try to attach a ps pump to the 223. The Toyota swap seems like a viable option if you don't mind building your own pitman arm. I'm not crazy about that personally. I am now looking at mustang...

Re: 65 redhead steering box in a 64 w/ new column

I didn't realize the drag links moved differently. You may have saved me the $400 for the redhead box I was eyeballing. I'll be looking at other options. Just found a tech article on the Toyota conversion and I'll be reading it this afternoon. Thanks for the quick reply.

65 redhead steering box in a 64 w/ new column

I read so many good things about the redhead steering boxes it makes me want to try one. Problem is my truck is a 64 with the interconnected box and column shift. I'm planning on putting in a t5 or SROD, so the shifter is moving to the floor. I've been looking at flaming river columns and a 65 redhe...

Re: Transmission Identification

Im pretty sure this is where my tag was... http://i836.photobucket.com/albums/zz289/cdc3jj/Mobile%20Uploads/image_zpskgchfvft.jpeg The trans is going behind a 223, with at most a couple carbs and split headers. And that's only when my lottery numbers hit. So I'm not worried about horsepower. The tra...

Transmission Identification

I bought this trans thinking it was a 3 speed with overdrive but I've never seen one in person. From the pics I see online I'm afraid I was dupped... Here's what I have.... http://i836.photobucket.com/albums/zz289/cdc3jj/IMG_3575_zpsctsr1ouc.jpg http://i836.photobucket.com/albums/zz289/cdc3jj/IMG_35...

Re: T5 question I can't find an answer for

Well that's good to know. I think I read on h.a.m.b. that The 223 and y-block used the same bellhousing. I emailed John Mummert and Modern Driveline to see if they know something I can't find online. I may also hit up wilcap while I'm in the typing mood. I'm not above taking the bellhousing to a mac...

T5 question I can't find an answer for

I've been searching off and on for a week now trying to find out if I can use an s10 nwc trans with the mechanical speedo (which I already have on the floor of my dads garage collecting dust) to compliment my f100 with a 223. From what I've learned I have the same bell as a y-block and there are ada...

Re: How to deal: seat back to steering wheel

That's good info. What p/s conversion did you go with? My preference has always been the 15" wood wheel. I have one on my nova which is without p/s but it can be a chore in slow tight maneuvers. I'm not opposed to a low back bucket. I've found some mustang and thunderbird seats locally but I'd ...

Re: Spring question... Monos and packs

My camper is a 60's travel-eze 10 footer so it doesn't weight much at all. I pull it with my wife's Jeep Wrangler at the moment and don't even know it's back there. I'm all single axle on campers and trailers so I don't think I'll have too much to worry about as far as pulling. It was the stopping q...

Re: Spring question... Monos and packs

That height is perfect in my opinion. That's what I'm shooting for. Just a slight tuck of the tires in the front fenders. Have you had any wheel hop during a hard stop?

Spring question... Monos and packs

I feel like I've read every thread here and on fte and hamb in reguards to leaf springs. I'm sure I haven't as this seems to be a slightly gray topic with lots of options and opinions. Basic info on the truck right now, it's bone stock. As far as I know anyways. Wheels are different but that's neith...

Re: 223 -> 300 distributor swap question

Thanks for the info. I was planning on swapping to the 300 and installing a pertronix in it at the same time. I'm not super familiar with the Mallory stuff. Seems like that requires an ignition box doesn't it? Thanks again

223 -> 300 distributor swap question

I'm considering swapping my 223 loadomatic distributor to one from a 300 and I am wondering how much work will be involved. I pulled my loadomatic distributor today to see if it was a 1/4" or 5/16" shaft. It's a 5/16" so I don't think I would have to mill or modify the 300 distributor...

Thanks Paul. Got her started today. I wouldn't have tried it had I not been sure of the wiring. Thanks again.

223 coil wiring +/-

I can't remember if the distributor wire hooks to the positive or negative terminal of the coil. Got the day off today and I'm trying to get the truck put back together and cranked. This is probably a dumb question and I apologize if it is.

Do 223's have a heat riser gasket?

Just curious on this one. I bought the "full gasket kit" from autozone but nothing seems to match the footprint. Is there a gasket for these? Or I guess I should say is a gasket necessary?

Water pump pulley interchangeability???

Will a 223 water pump pulley interchange with others? I'd like to run a double belt pulley but currently have a single. I see lots of double belts for small blocks online. Wondering if the bolt spacing is the same. Thanks.

Re: 1964 223 power steering pump???

I emailed 'no limit' to see if they offer their kit with a manual rack. I think that would eliminate my slop without requiring a redneck engineered bracket. If they don't, I might look into the cobalt rack another guy used over on FTE. Thanks for the suggestions.
