Re: Manual Transmission Upgrade -- Seeking Input

So I now have my motor in place, went with a 4v 390 t-bird motor I got off of CL. I'd still like to get a smooth-shifting OD manual trans to replace the 3 spd. For a T5, is it just a matter of buying an adapter for between bellhousing and trans, and shortening the driveshaft? Will the trans hump nee...

Exhaust Control Valve 352

Started up my newly installed 390 with original 352 exhaust manifolds with exhaust control valve below the driver side manifold. Ran the engine at idle for about 15 minutes (thermostat had opened) but the exhaust control valve never opened. I'm not familiar with these valves or their purpose, and it...

Re: 4V FE carb spacer

Thanks Charlie, I was assuming a 4V spacer off of the more common Windsor motors might be a little easier to obtain. The carb I'm using is a Ford with tag "C2SF B A 2GA". Do you think I should look for an FE spacer, given the sealing requirements you mentioned? We'll see what PATE has to o...

Re: 4V FE carb spacer

Would another spacer fit, such as from a 4V small block Ford? http://www2.cougarpartscatalog.com/4vcarbspace.html I realize it wouldn't have the heating feature. Also, the '62 Tbird spacer is wedge-shaped, higher in front. Any particular reason Ford did that? Many others here know the pre 58 Thunde...

Re: 4V FE carb spacer

So I'm fitting a '62 Tbird 390 into my '65 F100 and trying to retrofit PCV. The Tbird used a road draft tube, but that tube won't fit between the motor and firewall on the F100. So, I'd like to set up a PCV system with the motor. I have some '65 FE valve covers that will work for a PCV system. That...

Re: 4V FE carb spacer

I used to live in Laramie , Wyo. at 7200 ft.& cold winters , now live in Az at 5000 ft. & milder winters and I have never used a heated carb spacer. It just has not been a problem and you don't have the risk of overheated fuel. It will definitely hurt horsepower to preheat the intake charge...

Re: Did I get scammed on my widsheld?

Deep Ellum Glass in Dallas makes an ever-expanding list of swap meets in the south. Their price is $100.00 with free installation at those meets. The glass is quality, as is the installation, and unless policy has changed, they do the Custom Cabs for no additional charge. Their installers are among...

Re: Fan blade clearance

I finally figured out why the gap is so much closer. I retrofitted a '62 390 block into my '65 which required adding 1/4 steel plates to the motor mounts. That effectively raised the front end of the engine. I think I can drill new holes in the radiator flange to raise it 1/2" or so, enough to...

Didn't even think about the blades being balanced. Thanks for that tip and others. Will be looking for a smaller diameter flex fan.

Pate 2017?

Anyone going, and setting up a booth? Would be good to meet some other slick owners from the north TX area, and I need to pick up a few odds and ends. Post your space number and I'll drop by.

Fan blade clearance

I am reassembling my '65 with the radiator and fan blade (4 blade factory style, 18.5" diameter) that came off the truck, and noticed there is only 1/8" clearance between the fan and the upper radiator hose. Is this normal? Seems to me the torque of the motor could close that gap pretty qu...

Re: Floor mat

I took delivery of a vinyl full-length mat from LMC this week. My first impressions of it are good. The material looks sufficiently thick and pliable. I hope to have better luck than a previous poster that used LMC. My truck will be garage kept and used just for cruising. I would be shocked if the m...

Re: King pin thrust bearing lubrication?

I got a rep from Trayer on the phone today and he said to pack them like you would any wheel bearing. Should be interesting as the seam at the bottom looks about as wide as a human hair. Between said packing and greasing through the caps on the ends, rep says that should be sufficient lubrication. O...

King pin thrust bearing lubrication?

I have some Trayer BE-61 thrust bearings that came with a Moog king pin set, and I can't tell whether or not they are lubed from the factory. It doesn't feel like it, and if not, I can't tell how a person could pack them with grease. Anyone have experience with these?

Re: Floor mat

Where'd you find an original mat? Not an "Original" mat a Ford replacement mat. It is similar but not the exact surface pattern. fit and finish is very good. I think it was Dennis Carpenter Or Ebay , a few years ago. I'll try to get a picture. For the price I've been very pleased, it's ea...
