Re: Removing Volare suspension

Still up in the air about it. I do like the way it sets now and the width. I would also like to stay with 15” wheels as I’m kinda old school and think classics just look better with them.

Removing Volare suspension

So I put a Volare suspension in my 62 about 15 years ago then pushed it into corner of shop and left it. Well I recently decided it was time to do something with it after all this time. Thinking about pulling Chrysler suspension out and doing a crown Vic. Has anyone ever done this on here ? Just cur...

Re: Rear axle bolt pattern to match crown vic IFS swap

try a rear end out of an explorer , narrower plus disc brakes . As for strength , think about this look at all the high HP mustangs out there . All running 8.8 rears .

i agree anthony , is there any other color ? the last 2 projects i have done have been orange , and they both were definatly eye catchers. my uni will probably end up orange , if i ever get my shop done .

Maybe it's just the initial reaction from never seeing a non uni bbw, or never even giving it a second thought about converting a non uni to bbw. But who am i to say what is right or wrong , my appologies.

That's right , it is personal taste, and thats ok. I'm sure there is a lot of stuff i do that people don't like and thats ok to. Just makes us individual.

I really like the looks of the flat metal on the running boards and bed, but aren't you a little concerned about strength or rigidity. What guage metal are you using? At any rate it looks like you are doing a nice job. I need to get my a$$ out there and do some work to mine , but i'm to busy enjoyin...

i actually don"t think they are more prone to rust, i was just wondering. ford did change them for a reason though ,( just a thought). i'm actually in the process of building my own mounts. looking at the originals they don't look that involved. besides what have i got to lose .

front cab mounts

since the cab mounts are totally gone on my 62 and i have to replace them , i was wondering if 64 and later mounts might fit it. i realize the earlier ones are available, but i'm also wondering if the later ones are a superior design ( less prone to rust ). has anyone ever done this?

I have been researching the rack thing , i can probably make it work, but i don't think it would look right. I went ahead and stuck the motor in and the only problem i am going to have the oil filter hitting steering box. So i think i can solve that problem with either a remote oil filter( which i'm...

Does anyone know if the expedition rear end is fairly close to the truck , as far as width goes. I heard they all have the 8.8 rearend wich is plenty heavy enough for me , and they have leaf springs that mount the rear on top of the springs, which is what i was going to do anyway.

uni rearend

I'm sure this topic has been discussed before ,but i haven't seen anything about it. I would like to know which disc brake rearend is the closest in width to a stock 62. I am also needing 4 1/2 bolt pattern to match my front.

Thanks for feedback, i'm kind of kicking around manual steering also, but i'm a little concerned obut my wife having a hard time with it. Since i'm going with a small block maybe it won't be quite as bad. I also wondered about trying to adapt a rack and pinion to it.
