Re: Straight Sixin' '63

Seems I spoke too soon. I have an off idle stumble that I can't seem to pin down. I thought maybe it was the carb, but I have it both with the Autolite 1100 and the Carter YF. From a stop when I give it gas it stumbles, bucks, and will miss a bit. At speed (30-45) with low throttle it's fine. Increa...

Re: Speedometer Frustration

Slick 4x4 - thanks! Sometimes the solution is right in front of your face  I gave that a try and the cable was spinning smooth. Guess I’ll look for another speedo.

Jerry D - well at least it worked out in the end. I’m about ready to shell out for a rebuild myself!

Re: Speedometer Frustration

Thanks for the replies. I checked on the gear, has a little bit of wiggle but does not slip. I remember the ball when I installed that gear.

Re: Straight Sixin' '63

I tuned the auotlite in as best I could and took the truck out for a real drive today. Ran pretty dang good at speed despite the throttle shafts. It dawned on me while I was out cruising that this was the first real drive I've taken the truck on since last summer! :bangin: Since I've owned it I've p...

Re: WHAT UP???????

I'm on here pretty much every day. Mostly lurking though, I try to post pretty much any time I do something to my truck. Mostly cause it helps me remember lol. I've been using postimage to post pics. It's free and easy to use. I took my truck out for a spin today for the first time in...gosh I don't...

Speedometer Frustration

My problem is an inaccurate speedometer and no matter what I do I can't seem to get it right! :cussing: My tale of speedometer woe... When I got the truck the speedometer was off, read 5-10 off consistently. First things first, I calculated what drive/driven gear I'd need for my rearend/tire combo. ...

Re: Straight Sixin' '63

Haven't figured out a better way to rig up the carter yet, my makeshift cable was good for yard driving but that's about it. I have an extra autolite that doesn't have a SCV, but the throttle shaft linkage is in a different spot than the stock autolite with a SCV. So I cut it and welded it to match ...

Re: Slicktitus and ...

I love pretty much anything Studebaker, especially their trucks. I always wanted to get a late 50's 4x4 one, but that's probably impossible

My second project is a '82 Suzuki GS 650. Soon to be 3rd project is my grandfathers old Ford 8N.

Any pics of your stude's?

Re: Straight Sixin' '63

Got a decent return spring setup rigged in. I was having an issue with it high idling after I revved it. Realized that I still had the autolite carb gaskets in. Swapped in some 300 style carb gaskets I had and that solved that issue. Took it down the road a few times to dial in my "throttle lin...

Re: Straight Sixin' '63

Picked up a tiny air filter to hold me over. Seems to work fine. Also rigged up the choke assembly. Next up is to fab up a better return spring assembly :steering:

Re: Straight Sixin' '63

Scratching my head trying to come up with a temporary throttle linkage until I can get a 65+ pedal assembly together. Had a couple beers while cleaning out some boxes when I came across an old speedometer cable. Then my inner redneck came out  https://i.postimg.cc/wBTSXTs2/F9689-A1-F-F2-D2-4-FD...

Re: Straight Sixin' '63

Got the DSII all wired in and installed this evening. Wow. What a difference. Just idling and driving around the yard. So much smoother. Can’t wait to take this thing down the road once I sort out the throttle linkage :steering:

Re: Straight Sixin' '63

I got all the pieces now for the swap. Made some time this weekend and got the old dizzy out, removed the drive gears from both dizzys, dropped the oil pan (came off no problem with engine in truck), and removed the oil pump. Next up I have to ream the old dizzy gear out to 17/32. I only had a 1/2 i...

Carter YF Air Cleaner Assemby

Starting to get stuff together to switch my truck over to DSII. I’m going to use a Carter YF carb. Anyone got an air cleaner assembly they could part with for it? I’d prefer to use a Ford assembly that looks like it’s supposed to be there over an aftermarket air cleaner....

Re: Straight Sixin' '63

Got some road time in the old truck this week, about 70 miles. Did a couple dump runs, grocery runs, and put some fresh gas in (tank was almost 2 years old ) Turns out I had the timing wayyyyy too advanced once I got out and under load, it was pinging like a tin roof in a rain storm. Once I re...
