I didn't know you could cut safety glass. Also what do you do for a gasket?

Re: Automatic Headlights?
Already have the headlights on relays. but the relays are up front near the lights. Here's what I'm thinking. Buzzer hooked up to its own relay with power coming from the headlight switch and a power trigger from the door jam switch. So when she opens the and the headlights are still on, the buzzer ...

Re: There has been a desire for pics to Kids Chop Top.. here
Looks awesome, but when you start thinking about chopping tops, the difficulties list is LONG (angles, more angles, glass, door window frames, etc., etc.) From the pics, it looks like y'all did a great job.

Re: E-Z wiring harness
I have used the EZ Wiring kit twice, and one branded RPC (red box from ebay). The quality of the EZ kit is better only because of the instructions. All three times, everything worked perfectly the first time. The most important tip I was given, was "take your time." Do NOT wrap any wires u...

I think the VERY annoying buzzer idea may be the trick.

Re: Automatic Headlights?
I'm sure that the Dakota unit will work on your truck. Everything that I used from them was made so that you could put it in any car. Their products seem to be good quality. I considered using that in my truck just so I could elimate the swich completely but then I decided that I had to stop somepl...

Re: Rewire cont. Brake light switch
Fair warning: I have this type of switch on my Rambler. it's the kind it came with. I have replaced it several times and they never last more than a year. On the Rambler forums this is a common refrain. THEY DON'T LAST. You're MUCH better off going with a mechanical switch.

Automatic Headlights?
OK, so my daughter is enjoying her slick. However, she was driving a beater 1998 Bonneville before I handed her the keys to the slick. The Bonneville had automatic headlights so she never had to think about it. Now she frequently forgets to turn off her lights when she comes home from work. Since I'...

Re: Stripped window crank splines
I did the saturn motor swap and it turned out great. The hardest part is getting the wiring pigtails for the motors. I got them from pull-a-part in Nashville and I used a GM double window switch in the console. Advance sells the switch but they are everywhere in junkyards. It was actually one of the...

Re: POR15 vs Eastwood's Rust Encapsulator
POR15 gives off some nasty (and dangerous) fumes. POR15 is NOT UV stable. POR15 has seems to have inferior rust protection over time.
I have used both with decent results. I like the fact that you don't HAVE to topcoat ERE and it doesn't have potentially deadly fumes.

Spare Mount setup
Wanted the spare under the bed and wanted to to be easy to drop. Started by going to Pull-a-Part in Nashville. Found a spare tire "reel" in an S-10 that had the bed removed. Then I built a crossmember for it. http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/aa210/RamblinMan_album/1964%20F100/2012-05-30...

Re: Are there any car guys working in parts stores anymore??
I guess I've been lucky with NAPA then. I've lived in 9 diferent cities and town in the "South" and have had good NAPA parts guys everywhere I go. But since most are independently operated, I suppose that there are some that are badly managed. There are so few "Mom and Pop" parts...

Re: Are there any car guys working in parts stores anymore??
Can you really expect a minimum wage teenager with pimples and sagging jeans to be a competent parts clerk? This is most likely a problem with management rather than the kid. On one hand, the kid accepted the job, so yes, I expect him to be able to do the job reasonably well. On the other, he may b...

Re: Are there any car guys working in parts stores anymore??
Yeah, I look up ALL my own parts online, print the page for the part and carry it into the store. I slap it down on the counter and say I want one of these as I point to the part number. I also know when they have it in stock (when the computer is right). When they ask me for an application anyway, ...

Re: Vin tag and frame vin
My 64 has BOTH under the bed and by the shock tower on the right frame rail and, of course the door tag. Kentucky claims they want to see the frame stamp, but once the I told the inspector that I had the frame stamp and the door vin, she looked at the door and never asked to see the frame stamp.
