Re: water pump/overheating head scratcher
With ported vacuum, you will see little to no additional at idle. The main thing as to timing is the operation of the centrifugal advance. It needs to loosely duplicate the factory curve, and return to base timing at idle. I'm basing my thoughts on the <10% noted temperature increase, which is often...

Re: water pump/overheating head scratcher
Yep, an impeller takes up liquid from the center and expels it circumstantially. An "open" impeller design, or semi-open" dispels liquid against a backing wall of some sort. I suspect NAPA's suppliers' design is a matter of parts interchangeability as much as any other design focus. S...

Re: water pump/overheating head scratcher
Uhh, "block side suction"? That would be "recirculation"! I don't think that would be a good thing! Beware switching impellers; replacements don't always hold OEM tolerances., and it would be fun getting the clearances right without damaging the mechanical seal. Also note that Fo...

"I estimate 30 amp"! Trim that hourglass a bit, 30 amps is apt to make the coil arc to ground, LOL!

Yep, that is the likely cause of seal failure.Lowell wrote:Not sure about your tx ,but I think mine has a bushing behind the seal. its best to replace it while your at it,if its worn, the new seal won't last long.

Re: Source for fuses?
Gave you poor info, jet lag, I guess, original was a 2 amp, closest easy replacement is an SFE 4, same length. Finding such by itself is a little "iffy", but most auto parts will carry a Littelfuse assortment of SFE fuses, which generally includes the 4 amp. The inexpensive kit may well co...

Re: Headlight switch
Tom, I believe the later switches, (D3 prefix), while sold as a direct replacement by our vendors, differed by having the park lamps engaged when headlamps were on, no big deal, but some prefer that without bothering with a jumper. They may be the only switch easily available now, so may be a moot s...

Re: Here is another one brought in
I have paid as low as $700 here, but seems when I need one, they are in the 2 grand range, with the high cube 40 and 53 footers bringing even more. Dellivery expense, even here locally, is the big cost for the long ones, with the high cubes potentially requiring a lowboy. Next big hurricane, I inten...

Re: Headlight switch
Tom,
Sounds like a rewire may be in the works here! That would be my choice as well. Actually, I would use a later bump switch to allow park lamps to remain on with headlamps. In some cases, that involves relocating the retainer groove on the knob and shaft.
One would need both applicable pin-outs.

31.25" x 2.25", top of t.s. bell to end of lower column. keep in mind that with lower support bearing provision, you may need a different length. sPark (LM14) might be a good source of info for that, since he's been there, done that!

Re: Timing - plug gap?
4400 rpm is the point of extreme spark "spatter" as noted on scopes. As FMS noted; the life of the components is the big issue, especially with what appears to be thinly insulated plug wires. The original applications used 8 mm plug wires and .060" plug gap, moving the "weak spot...

Re: Timing - plug gap?
Pretty much what FMS stated! Good luck with your wires and wide plug gap! With one exception; IME, "HEI causes high RPM misfires!" Anyone one old enough to have worked with an oscilloscope and distributor machine has seen that exact phenomenon. To me, "50,000 volts" is like a 160...

Re: 1966 F250 Cummins gauges
Actually I would want it accurate at 1800 rpm give or take, it is where a 6BT motor makes peak torque and I believe 1700 is where yours peaks. This is usually the best rpm for pulling power and cruseing economy. I'm not sure where you motor hits the governor, but it has been said that a cummins can...
