That's the shift tube. Did the little tab break off it? It can be welded back on.

If you look close at the second picture you can see the hub cap mounting nib is on the inside of the dish. Not on the outside like later wheels.

Seeing as everyone is talking about floor pans. Does anyone have a cab with solid floors & a bent up roof. My 66 Merc could use a set of floor pans. The closer to MT the better. A good rust free cab would make it easier.

The 300 has a odd ball sound with the dual exhaust. That set up will wake up that six.

I've been thinking about doing the same thing on my 66. I just need to find a cab with the roof smashed in with a good floor. It won't be easy but with your experience and the tools you have at hand I say go for it.

There's a boat load of work in doing that. Way easier to find a regular cab for what you want.
