gas mileage

I got around 18 MPG driving a '66 with 240 six and four speed with granny gear acros the country a couple of years ago. This was after a tune up and carb rebuild. I suspect the gear ratio in the back might have been a little more highway friendly since it came with the granny tranny.

od vs granny

I think the transmission you choose depends on what you want to do with the truck. If you are towing the granny gear comes in handy, otherwise OD can save you $ on gas. I used a floor shift 4 spd OD unit from a mid-eighties truck on my slick. Fourth gear is .7:1 rather than 1:1. It was a direct bolt...

fire damage

I've seen a number of vehicles that have been restored after fires into show winners and even had a '57 t-bird that was in a fire. The bird had lost all its paint and the fire was hot enought to melt all the pot metal on the car. The sides of the car were fine and not warped, the hood and trunk were...

65 brakes

I've done this coversion a couple of times. I had to fill in the original hole in the brake pedal lever and re-drill to get it to line up with the right free play. If I recall correctly the new hole is a little farther back and higher on the arm than the original.

reducing rpms

I put a 4 spd OD unit from a mid-80's pickup into my short bed. The front splines and bolt patterns are the same. You might have to have your drive shaft shortened, should cost a little over $100 to get done. This reduces your final drive ratio from 1:1 to .7:1.

bent bed

So I finally got my tailgate painted, installed it and the right bedside is tweaked about 1/2 inch off verical. I know I can drill out the spot welds, re-position the bed side and re-weld it, but I hate to mess up the paint. I currently have a strap holding it in place so the tailgate can close. Has...

re f100 nationals

I am planning on it. Not sure what I'll be driving yet. I am working on a '66 custom cab and a '54 as well.

gas tank cleaning

I personally think the complete reline kits are a waste of money. The cleaner they provide just does not cut it. I used a quart of Muriactic acid diluted into a whole tank of water. The key here is to add the water first since water on acid spells WOA (like to a horse), this is a warning to not do t...

My truck is a 1965 custom cab, yellow and white. I am quickly approaching getting to the color on the cab. I just got it mounted on a rotator I built for the cab and am finishing the prep work.

two tone paint scheme

What is the 'official' two tone paint scheme for stylesides? From what I can tell the lower portion of the exterior (below the trim) and the roof above the drip rail and inside the contour are one color and the other portions are typically white. I've seen different treatments for the doors and inte...
