Re: 65 4x4 Daily Driver Upgrade
Installed the front and rear driveshafts today. Adjusted rear brake shoes and bled brakes again. Brakes still don't perform correctly, may need more adjustment on rear wheels. Drove the truck 4 miles down the road and back. Got up to 60 mph. At home, adjusted brakes again. Put more fuel in tank. Sta...

Re: Hybrid - Top Bar / Langstroth Hives
These are one story boxes and longer. The biggest difference is that I made the top portion of each individual frame, to work like a top bar hive, but also used the sides and bottom from regular langstroth frames. The top bar hives rely on the top bar to seal the top of the box(langstroth hives have...

Hybrid - Top Bar / Langstroth Hives
I've been diverted from the 65 F100 4x4 recently to build these hybrid hives. Wanted a different color than the traditional white, so I tried to match the color of the Slick. https://preview.ibb.co/jFReEx/IMG_20180407_181450918.jpg Tops are made from a roll of aluminum used to trim out windows, faci...

Re: 65 4x4 Daily Driver Upgrade
Bill,. I am not sure about the year range for the wheels. I purchased them already powder coated, I looked for stamped numbers but could not read anything useful. They have four nubs facing outward from the center stamping to accept hub caps. Tires are General Grabber X3's. I wanted 33x10.50 but the...

Re: 65 4x4 Daily Driver Upgrade
Got the leaking brake line fixed (I hope). Still need to get all air out of lines, need more fluid. Finished up wiring under the hood. Put gas in tank. Dribbled some in the carb, engine fired off, then died. After several attempts at this method, I doubled checked the fuel line to carb, no gas. The ...

I can't see photos from smart phone.
I checked another of your posts last week on laptop and could see them.
Probably need some update to phone on my end.

Re: Brakes - HELP!
Borrowed another flaring tool. That one slipped too. Ended up pulling the long brake line out of the frame rail. Used part of borrowed flare tool and part of mine locked down in the vise and got a decent flared end. Put the brake line back in with the adapter and smaller flared nut. Tightened, small...

Shipwrecked - Fiddling with brakes is not in the repertoire for a banjo player  I'm glad you got the air out of your brakes and the leaks stopped. When I set my mind to something I can be stubborn like a mule, but you were right, it was time to leave it alone. Mr. Jones - I used a flat file to...

Re: Brakes - HELP!
After bathing in brake fluid draining from the loosened lines and hack sawing the brake line off to put the brass flared nut on, the high quality flaring tool I have now won't keep enough grip on the brake line to complete the flare. Time to walk away from this. I don't think there is any "smil...

Re: Brakes - HELP!
These parts all fit and seem to work together. https://preview.ibb.co/e1NaBS/IMG_20180211_134548543.jpg https://preview.ibb.co/d3dRJ7/IMG_20180211_134651431.jpg I think the 3/16" label on the steel nut packaging was misleading as it referred only to the size of the brake line; and I didn't see ...

Brakes - HELP!
The brass proportion valve/bloc that was on the 65 I'm working on had seized up inside and I discovered it when I broke the plastic brake switch. I ordered a new block. It arrived, I installed it, but rear output leaked. Tightened slowly, still leaks. Removed block, and the steel flared portion of t...

Re: 65 4x4 Daily Driver Upgrade
Murphy came to help me bleed the brakes this evening. I hooked up a vacuum pump to the vacuum port on the brake booster to let the system work as if the engine were running. My wife worked the brake pedal. We hadtwo fittings that needed tightening, but I had a steady drip at the brass distribution/p...

Re: 65 4x4 Daily Driver Upgrade
Hey Jon. It is a vacuum gauge from the larger trucks like the F600's of the same vintage. They were made to fit the knock-outs in the dash just right. There were also mechanical drive tachometers, like the one on the right side of the dash, and there were air pressure gauges as well. My neighbor fro...

For comparison, the ground cable that was on he truck is to the left, and the new one I made up with some stick welder cable on the right. https://preview.ibb.co/gumc8x/IMG_20180128_143232786.jpg Here's where the ground cable goes from the battery to engine block, then another on to the frame. https...

Re: Temp Gauge
I once built a lawnmower with a twin cylinder Briggs engine. Had an old Sun tachometer salvaged from the trash dump. I wired the output from one side of the alternator from the engine through a second diode to get a DC current, same as the other side that was charging the battery. Then I wired a pot...
