What I have always done and seen done is to move the torch around pretty rapidly in a circular motion, say about 3 second to go all the way around the drum/rotor. Never had one warp yet, but I suppose its possible it one were to get the thing too hot in one spot. Sometimes the darned things are warp...

well, today I got a timing light and a vacuum gauge. I got it timed right at 4 degrees as per the shop manual. popped on the vacuum gauge and it's holding steady right at 5! It says I have a massive leak somewhere. I did replace the manifold gasket and sealed it good and checked the bolts are all t...

Those "nuts" are called "Tinnerman nuts" or clips. They were light push-on clips, really, designed to hold loose parts on while the truck was moving down the assembly line. They disappeared at the first brake job most likely. There are 3 possibilities why your drum is stuck. 1. ...

I used f150 hubs from 78 and even with 5/16" spacers, the innie caps would not clear the grease caps. I seem to remember in my gray dim memory that I once discovered that the F100 disk hubs from earlier, say 72, were different part numbers and took different bearings. Its possible that those hu...

65/66 most certainly came with innies, although some 66 had the later "outie" full face hub caps. I have been told that it was the "custom cabs" that got the larger hubcaps. But of course custom cabs came in many variations. So perhaps the larger hubcaps were just an upgrade that...

Years ago, I faced the same dilemma. There is a wonderful write up over at www.bobistheoilguy.com Turns out engine oil and gear oil viscosity are rated DIFFERENTLY. 50w engine oil is about the same viscosity as 90w gear oil. Makes no sense, I know. But that's the facts... Put the 75w90 in there.... ...

How do know that it's a 65? Lots of grills replaced along the way. Lots of fender badges swapped. Could be someone thought that in 1973, a 66 would be more valuable than a 65 and got some parts cheap and tried to "make it over". Could be someone really liked the double arrow 66. Is the gas...

When I was working on my 65, I considered replaceing the gas pedal --- but at that time, as far as I could tell, no one was makeing the exact 65 style floor mounted one. The earlier ones looked like they would fit, but the style of the ribbing was wrong. Maybe that has changed.... If DC says that yo...

If the king pins go in and you can detect ANY play, side side, top bottom etc, then its too much. I think most machine shops do not have a specific size reamer - they have a hone and they hone till the king pin goes in. I beleive the reamer is superior, as it actually passes all the way through the ...

I am uncertain that you really *should* be messing with the old split rims. Not many places willing to work with the any more, or at least that is my understanding. As for original appearing, bias sized tires, but with modern radial behavior, here is what I have and think looks very original on my 6...

I got lucky. The donor truck's kingpins (out of a '76) had to be pressed out, and it took over 30 tons of pressure. Nearly broke the press, but they came out. Turns out they were rusted in the donor I-beams, which I wasn't using, but slid right out of the spindles. Somewhere in its life it had been...

My dad bought a twin I beam truck in March of 65. He replaced the nylon bushings 3-4 times, until in 69, he decided that he had had enough. He put bronze bushings in there, AND, assuming that he would need to replace those eventually as well, he bought the correct piloted reamer, rather than have a ...

brazing is pretty strong isn't it? i guess i could call around and see where i could get it done. I would not braze it. The flux from brazing will get in between the radiator cap and the ornament (whatever the hell that is!!!). Later on, the flux is acid and it causes ooze and damage to your paint....

That would be correct I think, assuming that everything is stock. I seem to recall that when I swaped a heavier pinion into my 65, I ended up needing a 1310 to 1330 conversion u-joint. 1310 was stock I think.... A decent parts place will have the exact specs on each, and then you can measure the pin...

Re: Very nice brake tubing!

I have to recommend the brake tubing I'm using to replace the hard lines on my truck. It's called Cunifer. It's a 90% copper and 10% nickel alloy tube. This stuff is uber-easy to double flare even with my cheap flaring tool. I've yet to have a flare leak. http://www.fedhillusa.com I hate you...... ...
