Re: What Slick60s Engine Transplants Have You Seen?

A quick YouTube search "Perkins Ford" will net you several from South of the border... I believe we had an Ecoboost build here at one time... Mention of a Mercedes build but never heard of the results... I've heard talk of a 'two stroke' Detroit in a Ford... How about something rare, 427 ...

What Slick60s Engine Transplants Have You Seen?

I've seen Coyote and Cummins swaps. How about a Triton V-10 or Perkins 6.354?

Re: hauling in scrap metal

I've wondered how the old single wheel F-350 were made (6 or 8 lug, now I know). Thank's for posting the photo. Did you have a hard time finding the wheels or was the truck complete?

When Will We Be Able To Post Photos To This Site???

I've asked the moderators this question off and on over the past few years. The last I heard was in 2017 or so "we are working on it". Anything we the members can do to help? The technical help is out of my skill set but I can donate funds to support it.

Re: in cab tank replacement?

A cautionary tale. I bought a non vented from LMC and ended up having the line redone. The 5/16" had a 13/64" flare at the tank. Once I had it enlarged to a straight 7/16" I quit having fuel starvation problems. Turns out the tank also was made for a bump side but due to shelf life I ...

Yeah, the imaginary lines we drew in the dirt don't mean squat to our Creator. What ever vegetation or weather is in Old Mexico, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Arkansas or Louisiana you can count on Texas having the same.

Re: How did you finish out the back of cab when tank was rem

Been a long time since I've been on slick60's and the first time w/o Facebook. Probably been 3yrs since I've had Facebook. Glad to be back!!! I've placed fuel tank in frame and removed cab tank. I have bucket seats so the rear of the cab is in plain sight. Would love to see what you guys did with t...

Re: How Much Tongue Weight Can The Frame Handle?

I have a similar bumper pull trailer I haul equipment and cars on but I don't suspect the tongue weight ever gets over 600. I could be wrong, I should weigh the truck weight with a loaded trailer. I have not had any tongue weight within an inch of the axle snubbers. I've bounced off of them more tha...

How Much Tongue Weight Can The Frame Handle?

Nothing on the road, I am going to move a mobile home around on the property. I estimated the tongue weight to be just under 700 lbs but assuming 900. My rear bumper is a custom 1/2" metal with the ball up close to the truck flush inside not protruding and bolted up with grade 5 bolts/nuts with...

Re: 300 finally died. Motor is out.... what now?

In dry fitting everything I noticed the ear on the intake is busted. I can get a washer to grab a very small piece but not sure I want to even try it knowing I am breaking it in. I'd hate to be too lean from a leak. https://www.slick60s.com/gallery/image.php?album_id=208&image_id=12982&mode...

Re: Electric crate motor swap into a skick.

Train engines and the mining dump trucks use a diesel generator to power electric drive motors at the wheels. Something like that would be more practical than changing or charging batteries every 300 miles.

That is my fault, I didn't see Dennis Carpenter in your first post. He had them last year. I'll look on a computer, my cell phone does not do their site justice.

I realize I'm pbly gonna get burned for this one but has anyone done it or thinking about it? I'll be retired before long and thinking of doing this with a short stepside/flareside. Haven't checked into it much but for someone like me who's skill set does not include engine mechanic the are some ad...

Re: Looking for your thoughts on engine build.

I have a 1966 F-250 4wd 4 speed with granny low a 390 2 barrel carb. The truck was running ok when I bought it but I'm doing a complete restoration on it so I tore the engine down and the internals look really good. I had the block baked, cylinders honed, crank polished, pistons cleaned up with new...

Re: 300 finally died. Motor is out.... what now?

My wrecking yard findings tell me that most inline 6 with 3 speed manual trucks came with a 3.70:1 rear axle. If this is your case your turning around 2700 rpm at 70 mph. I've read online that you can swap around parts with a 240 and bump up your compression. Seems it took some machining to make it ...

Re: Can’t find vin.

I’m trying to ID a truck in a salvage yard. The doors are gone. I looked on the right frame rail but didn’t see any vin. Is this the place to find the vin? Also, how rare is it to find a slick with the Bendix power steering box? The VIN on my 63 is on top of the frame rail in the battery box. 65 is...

Re: How Are Your Torque Returns From A Modified 240/300?

There was talk of an aftermarket cylinder head a few years back. Now that the full size trucks are offering a V6 that will likely feed an interest in the old I and V6 engines.
