Re: It's done!
Leeroy, Your Slick looks GREAT! :notworthy: I love the stance, the paint scheme and the wheels! Would you also share a pic of the front end, please? Are you also considering to add to your 'to do yet' list the white F-O-R-D lettering on the tailgate? :2cents: Question: What is the function ...

Re: Assembling engine question
P.S. My last rebuild, I covered the timing chain with 10W/30 motor oil working it around to get the air out and the oil into all the joints. Then I let the chain soak in the motor oil over night in a coffee can. i have always done timing chains in a can of atf, a little thinner it gets into the joi...

Re: Let's talk about Fuel Gauges again
No fixin' this one, Brian! Funny you should mention using a Slick float in your Rambler, because what I located had a application listed for a Jeep; not a Slick nor a Rambler. I couldn't locate a "replacement sending unit float only" locally, so I looked at Tom's FlashbackF100, NPD and a f...

Re: Let's talk about Fuel Gauges again
When you replace it, be sure to throw the old one away! Paul No worries there, my Friend! The old float was so corroded that the loop end of the brass float fell into pieces getting it off of the arm! From what I've read, it seems that the newer-style plastic float is recommended over the O...

Re: Let's talk about Fuel Gauges again
Quite possibly a perforated float from your listed symptoms/ testing. Paul WHY YES, YES IT DOES HAVE --- A PERFORATED FLOAT! CONGRATULATIONS, PAUL, YOU ARE THE MAN! Thanks again, Buddy. :notworthy:  (Once I've located and installed a new float, I'll report back here with the results) Barnie...

Re: Assembling engine question
I've used Lubriplate (a white grease in a tube) and it is good enough stuff. My opinion of Lubriplate is that it is just another brand of assembly lube. If you have it - I'd use it. Like motor oils, most are very close to the same as the other. Problems quickly arise fast when you don't use ENOUGH o...

Re: Let's talk about Fuel Gauges again
Quite possibly a perforated float from your listed symptoms/ testing. Check the arm travel with sender removed and grounded. If gauge moves porportionately, replace the float. The "bouncy" signal is normal, it is a pulsed feed. Paul Thanks for your review of my situation and the suggestio...

Re: Rodfest
That's cool. Sounds like you're already planning on a tune-up. Don't forget to check the timing - and while you're at it, check for timing 'flutter'; see if the timing light indicates any unsteady flutter while reving the engine from an idle to 3500 rpms...an indicator of timing chain or distributor...

Let's talk about Fuel Gauges again
This is a '65 standard cab with the round instrument cluster. The behind-the-seat fuel tank and sending unit came out of a '68 F100. In trying to get the stock gauge to work correctly, I ran a new wire from the sending unit to the fuel gauge. I ran a grounding wire from the tab on the top of the sen...

Re: Welding Damage
Are you considering stopping back over to the muffler shop (with the repair bills in hand) and ask them if they'd like to contribute to some or all of the costs involved in repairing the damage they caused? Not to mention (well maybe I'd mention it) the associated costs of all your running around, t...

Jeepbut, Glad you made it to & back from the shindig under your own power. I'd say that was acceptable fuel mileage too. Were you able to get any pictures from the event? Sounds like an electrical short somewhere in the system...... I hate that too. Unfortunately, I have no sure-fire way of trac...

Re: It still goes on.....
Don't get me wrong...... I'm not slamming the guy for installing the chebbie drivetrain. What I was trying to point out was that he would have been able to sell his truck for more $$ if it had a FoMoCo drivetrain. And if I was in the market to buy a Slick, I would pay more for a Slick with a FoMoCo ...

Re: Rodfest
Headed to a car show at Pearsall Texas tomorrow in my 66. First trip of any distance and I think we are both ready! It's about 125 miles one way. This is the first of several shake down runs before the trip to Slick Stock in August. One of the prices for entrants is a flaked roof. This sounds like ...

It still goes on.....
.....I know, I know,,,,to each their own. I'm usually one of the first guys to point that fact out. But DANG -- WHY do folks STILL have to screw up a beautiful Slick build by putting a chebbie engine & transmission into it???? I was scanning over Mecum's recent sales and spied this nice Slick, a...

Well, it's been a month - have you 'sobered up' yet?
How was the event?
Did you have anything 'follow you home' from the event?

Re: Welding Damage
That's a bummer, White97. :( In the future, one way to TRY to keep such damage to a minimum is to attach your ground clamp as close as possible to the welding location, preferably onto the same metal structure, not having to depend on the current going throughout bolted connections. :2cents: BarnieTrk
