Re: Ignition switch

I do my own rebuilding as at 75$/hr. shop time I cannot afford to pay someone else to do it. I rebuilt my column once but installed a shift socket off Evilbay and the pin immediately wallowed out the shift pin hole as I did not manage to get it in right. On top of that I had the parts from 3 or 4 co...

Ignition switch

I've run into some differences in the switches being sold for our trucks. Part number is supposed to be C3AZ 11572 A . What I've encountered is that there is an extra metal contact tab on the back of some of the switches being sold and these are listed as fitting a lot of trucks. I've tried using on...

Re: Ford 223 "Mileage Maker" gas mileage

Back in the 60's, I borrowed a friends fairly new 65 long bed f100 with 352 and stick and overdrive which got around 15mpg. Thought I would mention this for comparison. The 223 was known for decent mileage if kept up, which was a questionable item for many of the trucks. I believe carbs were sometim...

Re: Grandsons Truck T5

Have never checked to see what ratio the Mustangs came with in the rear end, but figured it must be something like 3.25 or 3.00. . I will be putting a posi in it when I change the ratio, but want something drivable but may have to get different speedo gear or some kind of reducer to make speed show ...

Re: Cab seams, and leak questions

I have mentioned this before, I cannot stress this enough about leaking windshields. If you take the truck to get a new windshield installed make sure they use the bedding compound which is nasty stuff and non hardening. The reason you need to use the bedding compound is because of the poor spot wel...

Re: Cab seams, and leak questions

There is a seam sealer in both paintable form (able to brush on) and in a tube. I suggest the brush on. The wiper pivots are a leak source, as the original seals were leather, you can now get a rubber replacement from carpenter. Bear in mind neither is a good fit, and body shutz (form of sealer come...

Re: What years of 4 speeds can I use in my 66

Make sure you get all the pulleys with the engines, as finding a matched set can be iffy at best. Just so you know, Even on stock engines in the cars and trucks the pulleys had an alignment problem. Good price on the engines.

Exactly what are you talking about? Brake switch assembly or tail lamp? tail lamps will interchange, but not the switch.

Re: Looking for idea on where to buy seat cover and what col

Depending on what color the sun visors are, would be kind of appropriate I think. Choices of seat covers are limited in these trucks. Personally, I would go with a seat in the 70's as those are much better for comfort. You also get a better choice of upholstery. Nicer styles. Seats bolt right in up ...

Re: Droppng a pan in the truck to get something out of it.

Thank you Bruce, I was concerned about engine oil running down out of the engine and have wiped it off mating surfaces repeatedly during this nightmare. For those that would like to know, the bell housing I used was an aluminum one made with ribs from about 1981. Had it been a steel bell housing thi...

Re: Weekend with the traveling Vietnam Wall

All those people, some of which I went to high school with, died fighting for our country. We all mourn their loss, and their sacrifice. Only question I have is why were we there to start with? I often feel their lives were wasted by those responsible, and that those responsible should have been the...

Re: Droppng a pan in the truck to get something out of it.

Well I got the pan off, but it was a pain of course. I raised the engine as much as I could. The bell housing pushed against the firewall causing the engine to move to the passenger side. I managed to get 3 inches of clearance but it was a problem as the motor mounts pushed against the pan. Getting ...

Droppng a pan in the truck to get something out of it.

This is a 66 with what is supposed to be later mounts for a Windsor, I have a 351w with aluminum bell housing with ribs ( early 80's ) and a T5 bolted to it. What is the minimum amount of room for clearance I need to get the pan off and out of there? Hopefully, someone has the answer to this. I sure...

Re: Gas Tank, Tool Box, or Spare Tire

Sometime in the late 70's Ford offered a behind the seat storage box that with the tank removed should fit our trucks, I think. Finding one might be a problem though.

Re: Grandsons Truck T5

Shifter has positive stops, but is not an expensive unit. I went thru this transmission and hopefully it will survive. Since it is an early 86/7 model tranny, it is not rated for the HP. this motor will produce, roughly 400hp. Shifts like butter at the moment.
