Re: Charging issues
Do you unplug the gang plug from the regulator, jump the two terminals and start the truck with the plug not connected to the regulator? I thought this would produce AC voltage? Understand that I don't really know so I'm asking for knowledge, and thanks!

I was thinking the same but figured I had better check with The Wise Men (and women)! Thanks for the help.

Charging issues
I've been having problems for the last few days trying to drive my beloved toy. I think I have narrowed it down to the voltage regulator but figured I better run it passed everyone to be sure. The last few times I've driven it the alternator light has flashed on a few times. The other day I had to t...

Great! Give her a hug and tell her how much she means to you. After that, maybe you should hug the wife too.

I've always lived by "Never part with Grandpa's truck, never part with Mom or Dad's Kawasakis". What is more important than that is "Never let the family do without food". As long as we're fed, these three stay. Glad it all worked out for you, congratulations.

Re: Slick value by YOM
Just to clarify: I hope I didn't sound as if I would be willing to scrap my truck for $600 - $700. What I was trying to point out is that it would be worth about that as scrap iron. There is no reasonable way I would actually do it! Sorry if it came out wrong. I do agree that the XL would be quite v...

Re: Slick value by YOM
I'm the 3rd generation owner of my 65 longbed with a 352/3 speed. I'm 40 and my boys are 12 and 11. We all love the truck. Grandpa bought it in about 1980, my uncle got it in about 1990, and grandpa got it back in about 1993. I got it from Grandpa the first time in about 1994. As a fresh High school...

Re: Gremlins in my tail lights!
Well, I sure am on a roll! Been a trying day already with the old girl...... and now I notice this...... The lights don't work when I ground the switch as I stated before. Not sure how I confused all of this. They work when I run a POWER wire to the switch. Now I need to go rethink all of thi...

Re: What have you done to your slick today??
Today I did a good bit. Some good and some bad. I got the glass all clean and now the rest of the truck looks even dirtier. I got the new shocks on the rear. Took it out for about a 15 mile spin, some back roads, some state route and some interstate. It rides a lot better and the tail end doesn't wi...

Are the FT and FE parts generally interchangeable? Not to concerned since that tach is electrical, but curious.

Re: Gauge Pod
Are those tachs gear drive? I would like to have a set like that but not sure how to do the gear drive. Did the 332 FE in the old trucks have a dizzy with the gear drive for the tach? Wonder how hard it would be to find all of this stuff. Wonder what it would cost!!!

Re: Gremlins in my tail lights!
Thanks Ice, that's a wealth of information. With all of the rust I'm dealing with you most likely hit it on the head. I ran a ground wire to the battery post and all works well. Looks like I'll run a new ground strap from the body, to the block and ten to the frame. The headlight switch is fairly ne...

Gremlins in my tail lights!
I lost my turn signals and brake lights a while back. I lost the dash lights at about the same time I think, just didn't realize it because I wasn't driving it at night. I discovered that if I run a ground wire to the brake light switch on the master cylinder they all work. I understand that all of ...

I finally bolted the exhaust manifold on and put the exhaust pipe back on. Sounds good and fairly quiet. I could go as far as putting in a radio now!

Re: FE Exhaust studs
Just got it done. Wow, does it sound good! FE with twin pipes with minimal exhaust leaks..... I don't know that I care for the old cherry bombs, but they're there and work so I'm not changing it. for now..
Thanks for the tips guys.

Re: If you had about $500 and could pick any used engine ...
I would opt for the 300/240/3spd. Plentiful, good after market and readily available. I have a 352 in my truck that I got for $150 complete, minus distributor and carb. I'm sure an FE and trans could be bought, ready to drop in for less than $500. You would need perches, drive shaft and trans cross ...
