Re: Ford 223 PCV Conversion

No plans to block off the tube. I’m leaving it as is until I can find or rig up a PCV set up. I did find a hole in my muffler which is close to the cab. Probably the biggest culprit of in cab fumes.

Re: Ford 223 PCV Conversion

Thanks Unibody madness, I’ll check out fordsixes. Ideally I’d like to find the Ford setup. Most of the 223’s I can find around here don’t have the PCV setup and the sellers usually want more than what I’d like to pay for a 223 in shoddy condition lol. I have been able to locate the valve and even th...

Re: Ford 223 PCV Conversion

Thanks for the input Nic. I don't mind the oil drips, it's more the fumes when I'm stopped for long periods. It gets a tad fumey for my liking.

Re: Straight Sixin' '63

Well I'm getting pieces in place to convert my engine over to a carter YF and either DSII or just a conventional points dizzy. The rebuilt autolite I put on about 2.5 years ago is already starting to get leakage out of the accelerator shaft. I know that's a common problem but I thought I would've go...

Re: '63 Steering Column

April,
Did your column have those two smaller rubber pieces I found in my "new" 62 column?

Ford 223 PCV Conversion

What is the best way to convert a 223 from road draft tube to PCV setup? Install a PCV valve into the rear of the valve cover to intake vacuum? Or rig something up from where the road draft tube is with a PCV valve to intake vacuum?

Re: '63 Steering Column

I am no help in identifying the two small rubber pieces. There was not much left in the end of my column except the shift levers and I have since cut mine off to adapt to a rack and pinion. Guessing they are something to prevent rattles :?: My column didn't even have the lower flange. Now with it o...

Re: Straight Sixin' '63

Truck started running a tad rough again. Sort of an erratic pop in the exhaust. Popped the valve cover and found that some of the rocker nuts had loosened up a little bit. I’m going to put some extra nuts I have in the parts bin in and hopefully that’ll sort it out.

Re: Straight Sixin' '63

Got some free time I wasn’t planning on. Found a pinched wire in the steering collar that was grounding out my front left turn signal. It’s all fixed and working great now.

Re: Straight Sixin' '63

Got the column all put together. No wiggle, play, and the gap between the shift collar and steering wheel is gone :thumright: Unfortunately I may have to take part of it apart again because when I put the left turn signal on I blow the signal fuse. I think I may have pinched a wire in the column. Al...

'63 Steering Column

In attempting to rebuild my '63 column I've had trouble tracking down parts. More specifically whatever is in the bottom of the steering column. The diagrams I've found were for '61-'62 and while giving me a general idea of the setup were not specific to '63. So I found a '63 steering column on ebay...

Re: Straight Sixin' '63

Thanks for the tip nightmare! I did some googling and found a place that reproduces them. My steering column came in today. The exterior rubber piece I was missing (which has been ordered) and there is an interior rubber piece which I am missing. I’ll do some googling on that (maybe the mustang plac...

Re: Straight Sixin' '63

Didn't make any progress on the truck this weekend, still waiting on the extra column to show up. I did sort through a giant bin of miscellaneous parts my uncle gave me when I got the truck though. Found some goodies. More fuses for the truck than I will ever need, an extra water pump, extra windshi...

Re: Straight Sixin' '63

The column is all rebuilt but once I put it back together the steering box side still has a lot of play. When I put it back together I bottomed the column out on the steering box and the column was pretty sturdy, BUT I could only get one shifter arm to move. I had to back the column off the box abou...

Sounds like Ford just converted the 223/262 block into a diesel engine. Sounds like it would work and be a pretty neat build.
