Hello I'm working on a 61 f100 unibody. The current project is floor pan replacement.

What should the angle indicated by the red lines be?



I was thinking it should be 90 degrees or larger but the repro mounts I have are smaller. I haven't measured but I put a square on it and it looks like the repro is about 85 degrees. It looks like the floor pan is sloped from the middle to the outside of the cab; higher in the middle and lower at the sides. The repro mounts being less than 90 degrees just doesn't seem right. Wouldn't that cause it to slope to the inside? My originals are not in good enough shape to trust the measurements.

Charlie, I just got through welding in my floorpans and cabmounts in my 66 F-250 4x4 and the repops I bought all came in with the 67-72 tags on them. after everything was welded in it sits right but the new mounts didn't look like what was left of the originals. I don't know about your angle but someone on here for sure ought to. I have pics on my album if you think it may help. good luck Anthony

Yes, '65 and up are a completely different design in terms of the floor and cab mounts.

Where did you get your mounts from? I used Carolina Classics parts but I didn't install them myself so I can't really say what the angle is supposed to be. I would be curious to know if the floor pans are intended to slope one way or the other though, so maybe one of our resident fabricators can chime in with some more info.

Thank you for that link. It says that it is angled up and to the front from the bottom of the a-pillar which is what I have observed but I didn't notice any angles.
The mounts are from Carolina Classics. So I guess I'll have to massage them a little more because they definitely slope down from the a-pillar. I should be able to ball park it but if anyone knows the angle or can measure there good mount I would appreciate it.

I'm a little beyond this point now. I have tacked the rear and left side of the floor pan. I'll take care of the outside portion once the inside is buttoned up.



Much of that area had to be reconstructed.

Seeings as mine needs a little adjustment I can't get you an angle measurement right now (cause it would be wrong, lol). I had a solid 64 cab and I can tell you the floors & mounts are not level.

Ok. I guess I forgot to bring my brain along when I made the first mearement. I checked again today and it is about 93 degrees, which happens to be the aproximate measurement I got on the passenger side.

Are the cab mounting rubbers for a unibody the same as those for a regular cab? I have a set for 1961 - 64 Ford Pickup Truck but they do not look quite like the ones I removed. I was going to put one in tonight but I don't see how they will work without at least a little modification.
Here is a pic showing the mounts which I removed and the replacements



It's the small step on the upper rubber that I'm wondering about. It doesn't fit into the hole in the frame. The lower rubber has a hole large enough to slide over that small step of the upper mount. The rubbers I removed do not have that step and the lower has a smaller diameter hole. Each of the rubbers is labeld "front top" and "front Bottom" so I know I have the ones that should be correct out of the set.

So am I misuderstanding something?
There are also some large od washers, about 3/16" thick and I don't know what they're for. Oh, maybe they're shims?

Well, I just got off the phone with Carolina Classics. Turns out the standard cab mounts and the unibody mounts are different. I told them I have a unibody when I placed the order. Oh well. So I'll have to return these. They also said that unibody mounts are not available. Does anyone know if this is absolutely true? If so does anyone know the dimensions of new cab mounts so I can make them.

This is somewhat urgent as I am trying to make it to the Y-block nationals labor day weekend and I have many other projects to complete which I cannot start until the floor pan is done.

Also, can someone measure this from the bottom of the flange of the sheet metal mount to the bottom of the mount, parallel to the mounting bolt. I get 2" on the passenger side. I wonder if it should be the same on the driver side?

I didn't mess with those "replacement" mounts.
Made mine from 2 X 3 tubing and 1/8 plate.
They should outlast the truck but will surely outlast ME !

62galxe, Is yours a unibody?
It looks like my driver side probably started at 2" as well. It's just rotted so bad that it's hard to say for certain. Your measurement seems to confirm it. So I wonder why the repros are 2 1/4"

Tim, I'm already committed to the repro mounts but I think I would have been better off making my own. I'm not concerned with it looking original. I just want to drive it.

I've found some stuff that I will use to make some cab mounting rubbers. I'll post the results when I'm done.

Whom ever told you the body 66 and body 81 differ in cab mounts is full of crap. The same basic floor stamping is used in each truck.

The reproduction cab mounts are made the same legnth left and right which differs on stock trucks as the drivers side is about 4 inches longer to compensate for the off set transmission tunnel and pick up the gas pedal rivnuts on all 66 and 81s from 61 to 64. The cab mounts are also not square ads the floor pitches from the center out to the toe boar kick panel intersection.

How did you manage to get the completly wrong cab mounts and floor to fit? The F250 4x4 in 1966 uses the old type mount same as 61 to 64 model 81 trucks and also 61 to 63 model 66 trucks. It also use an entirely different frame verses the two wheel drive truck. Are you using a 67 up frame? which is about the only way to do it.

ADENDUM: Anthony i looked at your truck pictures after i posted. It is a F100 or f250 2 wheel drive cab and bed not a F250 cab or bed for 66. is your front suspension leaf spring or coil? If its coil is an F100 if its leaf it is a later frame to 79 with the 66 cab and bed. The Vin for this truck should begin with F26

Please post the vin info.

Oh BTW body 66 is a uni body, and 81 is a conventional cab.


Quick primer

61 to 63 unis
61 to 64 conventionals
65 F100 four wheel drive
65 66 F250 four wheel drive all use the same basic floor stamping and cab mounts.

The 66 F100 used the same mount and cab as the two wheel drive units.

The probale main reason they make the mounts in a single legenth is to cut fabrication costs and the last four inches of the drivers side mount rarely rots out.
