The place to talk Slicks. All we ask is that discussion has something to do with slicks...

Vent window frames

Post by 62bigwindow »

How good are the aftermarket vent frames and hardware?I am having a heck of a time finding a used set that is not rusted out.I am sure I have seen this discussed before but don't remember the verdict on these.

The last time I inquired MAC`s said that they were out of stock and then told me that they don`t foresee them being made again..........but Good old Tom came to the party with beautiful used set, I`d try him at flashbackF100`s..

Same as Alan, got a set off Tom and they were perfect. Came as a complete set, glass, frames, pivots etc... Just had to replace rubber, which I was doing with every rubber piece on the truck anyhow.

I bought a set from blue oval truck parts when they first started making then and they fit great. http://www.blueovaltruckparts.com/i-17080-0-176-Vent-Window-Frame---LH.aspx

What I found though is the glass needed a gasket or rubber insert to seat the glass correctly. I couldn't find anything that fit so the glass shop worked some magic to seat the glass. Looked good but not as neat as factory.

This was blue slick Alan, so the glass fell out of the frames and the frames were toast. Big reds are staying put although I did just replace the vent rubbers. :D

I had a bugger of a time trying to get the glass out of Lenore's vent windows, in fact I think I stuffed them and had to get those from Tom as well, the sealant they use is the same as they use to attach the side windows to the regulator frame, a thin strip of sticky rubber.

Alan we call it glass setting tape,, sticky material about 1" wide , put it in the frame, rubber mallet to put the glass in then take a razor blade knife to cut the extra off, can be used where the door glass sits in the channel where the regulator is as well
