223 Question

Post by 64F100StepSide »

This may be a stump the experts question. Does the 64 223 have a different oil pump then the 63 223? 2nd bonus question. What will happen if you put a 64 pump in a 63 block?

The '64 oil pump has a larger hex drive. I believe it was sized up to 5/16" from the previous 1/4". So if you were to put the '64 pump in a '63 you'd need a distributor to match.

The 64 pump is different. It will work just fine if you also have a 64 distributor. If you have a 64 distributor you can take the gear off and put it on a distributor out of a 240 or 300, and get cool things like centrifugal advance and even duraspark electronic ignition. That is because the hex drive on a 64 was 5/16, vs the 1/4 inch drive on the 63. The 240/300 use a 5/16 also.
