whine about cheesy fan belts

Post by ICEMAN6166 »

glad i only have one fan belt on my truck

had to buy a new one because my 2 year old one looks ready to give up the ghost soon.

back in the day you could buy nice fan belts made of thick rubber that would last a long time.
now it seems im stuck with the new style that all have ribs on the inside attached by what appears to be 1\8" inch of rubber made in a foreign country.

i will install the newly bought one and store the used one in my truck in case i might need it.
wish i would have kept some of the still usable old type i used to have from all the trucks i parted out.

Brian I don't know if there is a O'Reiley's close by but we are changing belts over to these green belts which look a whole lot better than the average ones

I bought my last one from a lawnmower shop
They have extreme duty belts there
Just match the width & length

industrial stores (grainer etc) which carry pulleys and bearings are a good source of quality belts, just bring in your old one as they don't have auto listings
why put off till tommorow what you can put off alltogether

And surprisingly, down here at least, they can be found at an industrial supplier much cheaper than I have found at auto parts. Belts are one of the few things I don't at least price on line. As I get older, I have begun to prefer things that fit the first time!

Swamp cooler belts are solid without the ribs on them. You will have to size them by hand, however.
