FE Exhaust studs

Post by Mellvis »

Got my new manifold and have it on the engine. Now I need new studs. Are they 5/16 course? I've been seeing posts about using brass nuts. Is this so they don't rust onto the studs? Does it really make life easier when taking it apart in 20 years?

fe manifold studs are 7\16 coarse thread
using the brass nuts are fine but i would still put a liberal amount of anti-seise on both ends of the stud.
that way you can be almost sure they will come apart again if needed.

Is there an advantage to just using bolts rather than studs?

Bolts work fine if your hole is through the manifold but not so much if it is blind. Also harder to get out later.

Best not to leave any threads showing in the top. What ever corrosion or rust builds on up on them can crack the bosses when bolts/studs are removed from head.

Just got it done. Wow, does it sound good! FE with twin pipes with minimal exhaust leaks..... I don't know that I care for the old cherry bombs, but they're there and work so I'm not changing it. for now..

Thanks for the tips guys.
