Will a 300 DSii fit in a 240?

Post by NUMA NEWBERN »

I THINK I have a 240 in my 65 F100, I want to go with a HEI or DS ii BUT can't seem to find a listing for such, I have found listings for HEIs that say will fit 5/16 shafts but NO FOR SURE listing for the 240.

I would rather NOT pull the distributor TILL I have a replacement, will the 300 fit the 240?

Yes it will. You will have to get a non spark valve carburetor like a carter YF if you run a duraspark. They are fairly cheap and available online. Go for it.

I'm also interested in getting rid of my spark valve carb. Mainly because you can't find new ones and you can only rebuild the old ones so many times.

As far as using a Duraspark dizzy, I'm assuming you have to run a vacuum advance line to it...is that correct? Would you just tap a vacuum source, like the intake manifold?

The YF carb has ported vacuum on the base. You can get a manual choke carb for a 73 model, but I think it has the large base. The older ones with the small base are getting scarce. I ran the auto choke off of the exhaust manifold on my 300, and I have pictures of how to do this. The duraspark distributor will change out no problem, and I don't see why you can't use manifold vacuum, I just never have had to do so.
