Starter grease?

Post by unibody madness »

I have several starters that need rebuilding as they will not spin freely. Those that are rebuildable need a grease or lube that will not seize up.
Any recommendations????

There is a oil impregnated bronze bushing on each end. Soak them in engine oil at least 24 hours before installing.

It's not too bad. I rebuilt a lot of starters on a job years ago. If you have an Auto electric type store they will have everything you need to rebuild a starter. Not to sure how your average auto supply will do on the parts. If you have any issues let me know I think I can get them local here.

That sounds great! Thanks for the offer.
I won't be able to get to it till next week, I will let you know if I get in a jam.
I have rebuilt a few but I used grease and they started dragging quick, hope the oil soak will do the trick,I plan on using carb cleaner on them first.
