1966 1/2 ton rear half of the driveshaft
Ran into another little issue in the conversion of my 66 F250 into a 1/2 ton,I figured that the drive shaft would be too short so I grabbed the one from the 69 that donated its 9 inch but its too long. I know I can get it cut but I think I can find the correct shaft for much less so will I have to get one from a 64 to 66 or will a 61 to 63 1/2 work too, will a short bed be the same length or will I have to stick with a longbed.

Re: 1966 1/2 ton rear half of the driveshaft
there are several factors determining ds length
trans, wheelbase and rear end type
a shortbed driveshaft will be way too short for a longbed
64 was 128" wb
65-66 are 129"
61-63 2wd longbeds were 122", 61-65 f100 4x4 wb is 120" as are the 61-66 f250 4x4s
4x4 rear driveshafts are shorter than 2wd as the t case takes a lot of length out of it
changing from 2 piece to 1 piece changes the angle of the shaft as well
its best to try to stick with the original style
you did not mention your original f250 driveshaft length, im betting its too short as the d60 is bigger than the 9"

Re: 1966 1/2 ton rear half of the driveshaft
The original shaft is too short so I am going tom find a 65/66 longbed 1/2 ton to grab if from,I think I might have issues with the frame crossmember that carrier bearing bracket attaches too if the truck is loaded too much so I am going to stay with a two piece.

Should be no difference in shaft length between a '64 LWB 2wd, and a '65/'66 LWB 2wd. I can give you the Hollander number, but it still comes down to knowing the eye to eye overall length. My '65 LWB has never had a center bearing bracket, static unloaded clearance is `4", so my gut feeling is that there would be no interference even with the bracket. I guess I could test that thought with a half yard or so of dirt behind the bed, but I'm pretty sure it would be well into the bump stops before interfering.
