4x4 rims

Post by 66camperspecial »

Does anyone know if 4x4 rims have more of a offset then 2wd rims,I know on the 80s fancier rims there is more of a offset on the 4x4 rims then on the 2wd version but wondering if it was the same with the regular rims from the 60s to the 80s. None of the 70s to mid 80s 4x4s in the local junkyards have any rims on them.

I know of no offset differences up into the nineties, with the exception of the 4x4 van conversions. The reason for this would likely be the fact that in most cases, the rear assemblies were common with the 2wd, so offset f & r remained the same. Wider widths were sometimes available on the 4wd, giving the look of more dish.

x2

as to wider wheels these 67 camper special inny wheels (16. 5") were i believe the first wide wheels offered pretty sure they are 9" width

this is the stock 16" inny wheel used on both 2wd and 4x4 slicks

as you can see there is a difference in offset between the 2.

Ice, I'm not sure the offset is different. I suspect the width of the 16.5's give that look, as stated. Looking at the rim, it looks as if it is standard offset. I retrofitted a bunch of utility service trucks with the 16.5"; sure made my flat repairing easier! Ford at one time produced a five-lug 16.5" innie wheel; haven't seen one in decades, however.

My 88 bronco has rims that have more of a dished look then a 2wd version and I am heading out to the garage and put one on the back of my 66,I really wanted to use basic rims and bottle caps but might be changing my mind after I get a quote on custom made rims. My bronco has what I call rally type rims with trim rings and center caps which I could use since I do have two 2wd rims and can get a pair of 4x4s for the back if they fill up the space.

i have the 16.5s on the back of my 4x4 and the standard factory innys on the front now
the 16.5s are offset a bit more than the stock.its easier to see on the same truck.

Pulled one of the bronco wheels off and stuck it on the 66 and it is just the way I want it,the bronco has 31-10.5s on it and looked great. Did some measuring and the bronco has 8 inch wide rims but thinking about having 7 inch wide rims made with a 5 or 5 1/2 inch offset since there was still plenty of room between the tire and body even with the bronco wheel on it,forgot the bronco had a regular rim for a spare and it looked to have a normal offset.

The 8 inch would work but if I go with a 7 inch I want a little less back space to move the rim outwards.

Think ya'll may be confusing offset with back spacing.

I am going to order a pair of the 8 inch wide rims right now,I called the Wheelsmith out west and they want 107 each and probably plus shipping so with free shipping on orders over 99 dollars its a no brainer to go .with Summit and the backspacing is what I need

Less than 1/2" change in offset from the original wheels (and the Bronco wheels), so that equal width should give you a close duplication of the Bronco wheel.

Those 8 inch rims are a must if anyone wants to put the wheels out some.
