Looking at buying a new to me Step/flare side box for my 63 if it's in good shape etc. How do I tell the difference between an f100 and an f250 box? The seller is unsure since the bed has been swapped onto his 65 f250 frame with a 61 cab. I am thinking the f250 is "taller" and i do have my crusty original to look at etc just need a little guidence. Thanks.
Scott.

not sure i know, there is supposedly some difference whether 100\250 or 2wd\4x4
pic of f100 2wd longbed 122" wb
66 f100 4x4 longbed 128" wb
i can tell you i took the tailgate from the top bed and it was identical to the one on the bottom

Brian, that red one is a 250- noticed the 8 luggers.
1/2 ton short bed shorter sides tailgate etc.
1/2 & 3/4 ton long bed taller sides, tailgate.
Scott double check your cab to axle measurements [roughly ] on your chassis and on any bed.
My 65 4x4 is roughly 48" as was the bed I found, and later had on made. That's on an 8' box. the fenders and wells are furthur back on [I think } the 1/2 ton
I don't know if you have a short bed or long?
Take a look at Steves' 1/2 ton shorty, notice the different front headboard:

Forgot to thank you guys for the help/info. Seller hasn't gotten back to me yet but planning on taking a look if he ever does.
Re: f100 vs f250 stepside/flareside box?
The flareside box is the same for F100s and F250s which were both offered with the 8-foot long flareside bed. The difference to be aware of is the wheelbase change between 1963-64 on 2WD models. The red flareside bed in the pic is from the earlier ('63 and prior 2WD) wheelbase truck. 4WDs kept the shorter wheelbase thru '66. The fender openings are farther back on '64 and later 2WD long beds.
Shortbed flares are almost completely different than longbeds, except for the fenders themselves. I have two longbed flares (a '64 F100 2WD and a '68 F250 4x4) and the beds are identical.

I have two long narrow beds, a '64 and a '65. both are F100's, factory oem. The long beds are WIDER than a short bed, 54".

4wds are 120" wb, 2" shorter than the 2wd except of course the 66 f100 4wd which is 129" and uses the same beds as the 64-66 2wd trucks.
the earlier longbeds were made so the center was directly over the rear axle, the later ones allowed more load to be placed forward of the rear and so a bit more weight is then on the front end.
