Galaxie or other year steering column

Post by 66camperspecial »

My 66 will be getting under dash a/c next year so then means the Lokar shifter will have to come out,I am trying to find a original column but if I can not find one I was thinking about a 65/66 galaxie or 67 to 72 automatic column. Has anyone actually got one to work and what had to be done to make it fit.

Put a 72 F100 automatic steering column in my 65 crew cab with 390/C6. Use the column mount from a 65 truck on the 72 column and it bolts right in. Change the pins from the 72 wiring harness plug to match the 65 style. (This assumes you are using the Ford PS box)

Is the mount on the column welded on as I think I might have a column from a 68 around here somewhere,I would love to find a 78/79 tilt column but I want it to look close to original.

The mount has 4 spot welds that hold it to the 65 column. Drill them out and the re-weld it onto the 72 column.
If you are serious I have an extra perfect 78 tilt column with rag joint. All wiring unmolested. No key in the column. For automatic. It's expensive though.

I have to be cheap right now so no tilt column,I am going to find a junk column to get the mount from as mine is good and do not want to destroy it.
