Broke My Speedometer Lens

Post by SteveCanup »

Detailing my dash and cleaning up the bezels, knobs, etc. Repainting everything and so forth. I took my glass lens from the speedo and cleaned it being very careful not to drop it....and I dropped it...grrrrr.....broken into a half a million pieces. I have cut a template onto card stock and was going to Walmart to see if there were any picture frames, clocks or whatever that would have the same size glass. Any ideas for a replacement?

Maybe you can cut one out of lexan. On later stuff they used plastic without the world ending.
For every person with a spark of genius, there are a hundred with ignition trouble

My '63 short wrongbed

"The Iron Rhino"
300 I6, 3 spd manual, DS II/ HEI ignition.

Stuff I added to Hints and tricks

-300-6 choke tube repair
-duraspark II/ HEI
-Horn ring contact tube repair
-turn signal indicator fix

Mikhail Kalashnikov and Nikola Tesla are the guys i think of when i build things.

Any glass shop will cut a round glass for you. 6" Round but I think it was actually 6 1/8" I had one cut about 5 years ago. Cost me $3.00

Yep...that's what I was thinking. I can make or fabricate anything...(almost), so I figure that I will go to my local Lowes Hardware and buy a small piece of lexan and make another. ...And life goes on. (And I'm not a purist :D)

Thanks ChicoF100...I was wondering if a glass shop would do that...that's another option.

I did this once, so frustrating ! I had a spare but like others said a good hardware store can do this.

New lens cut today at the local glass shop, $7 and it was worth it. The guy even had me came back with him to watch how it is done. So if I break another one I'll know how to cut one out.

I did not know these were made out of glass...ever. My '66 is plastic...so I think? I have the long speedometer, not the round one.
