I will post a much too long narrative later, but I think I finally found what caused the knock on my rebuilt y-block, after R and R with two different engines.
A series of stooge like problems with fuel pumps caused me to peek through the actuator opening at the eccentric, and found it ready to come off. I now get to block up the engine while I take apart the front of the engine.

It does not matter what you think, it only matters what you do about it!

Re: Arghhhhh Finally found the knock
Well... I got the timing chain cover off.. bolt was tight, eccentric was loose and sloppy.
Looked it up in the shop manual... There seems to be a counterweight to the eccentric missing.
Contacted a guy from northern Ca. that I bought a four barrel intake for the y block from and he is nice enough to be mailing me one....Yeah!
Dittle le di,... dee dee!
