Re: leg room
It all depends on how long you are. There was a family of giants in my high school that drove galaxies, but had to remount the seat farther back to fit there 6'8" legs in.
Re: leg room
You say you fit comfortably in your 63 with a stock seat? I think either would fit you rather well. Fairlane convertibles go for fairly high prices from what I've seen but so do some of the Galaxies. Bucket seat car may fit you better than bench seat. While searching around the internet I've seen many Fairlane convertibles in excess of 20K but a few for less. I did see one for about 10K that looked good from the picture. Wasn't really looking for one, just ran across it while searching trucks with a generic 1966 Ford search on Ad'Hunter.

Re: leg room
Before I bought the '56 Ranch Wagon I was looking at the Fairlanes. From what I seen you should be able to find a real nice driver quality for around $12-15,000. A little less for one that may need a little TLC.I used ad hunt'r to search all of craigslist to shop for a car.
