Was carpet a option in 66

Post by 66camperspecial »

The floor mat did not survive being removed this time and would like to find another but also thinking about carpet if cheaper,my 66 did not have sill plates and if I do go with carpet I will have to find some that will work so could carpet be ordered and were there sill plates made.

I don't know if it was an option, but it was installed in the Rangers and even had a cover for the tank, as the tank would show because of the bucket seats. that being said, options were more available in those days as special orders than today. One word of caution about carpet in these trucks. Our trucks are prone to leak and carpet holds water. In addition, the sealant used to seal the windshield is not common toady although available from 3M and available from my PPG paint source but not always used as it should be allowing the windshield to leak. Also, the roof drip rail sealing Is often neglected and allows water to leak there also.

I will most likely stay with a rubber mat since it will be making trips to junkyards to get parts,I did find some sill plates but at a hundred dollars a pair I will forget about them for now.

I was pleasantly surprised that the carpets manufactured by ACC for our trucks now, and sold by LMC actually fit. the carpets were short on the kickpanels on each side by an inch or 2 and left a big gap. very very disturbing. now the carpets are 2 or 3 inches too wide and you cut to fit. takes a little more time but you can cover your whole floor. I guess so many people bitched the manufacturer changed the pattern. this went on for a few years. but I would now recommend the LMC carpet. I just installed one last week. it ain;t perfect with some puckers and such but it is cheaper than a custom made carpet at an upholstery shop.

I found a pair at the local old junkyard today on a 66 custom cab and was able to save all the original screws too,got them for 10 dollars and heading out to the garage to clean them up.
