tire size
I have a 1961 4x4 long box step side and was wondering what the tallest tire on stock suspension i could run is if i kept it narrow.
Re: tire size
I have the 63 version of your truck with narrow 33's on it and they fit fine. I remember a while back a member here (iceman) mentioned 34's were as big as you could go without starting to have issues but I don't really know just repeating what I've heard. I thought they looked really big when i bought them but after I put them on I think my truck makes them look kinda small but I'm still happy with them.
If you want my actual tire size let me know and I'll go look.

Re: tire size
33s or 255-85-16 make the 4.56 gears speedometer dead on
could not fit 35s under the 2wd uni
Pat had hummer tires on his 4x4 at slickstock, not sure of actual but i think they are 38 or 39s

Re: tire size
They are 37 inches tall
But I had to trim the front fenders
My front fenders WERE NOT the bigger opening fenders though....
I run a flatbed, so back tires weren't a problem
I think a guy can run 35s" without any mods.....

curious as to how much weight you ever had on the flatbed say 300 gallons of water, full cord of wood, etc.
i had 40s on a 69 f250 4x4 with a 4" body lift and the knobs on the tread would still hit the rear bottom corners of the wheel openings of the front fenders on full turns.
as you know 4x4s are supposed to have all 4 tires the same
however there are ways to cheat this without messing up.
its the circumference that matters
wrap a rope around the center of 255-85-16 , measure the length it takes to wrap, then do the same with 33x12.50x16.5.
they are the same.
then consider that front ends are .01 less than rear ends in ratio
fronts are 4.09 or 4.55
rears are 4.10 or 4.56
means the circumference measurement can be an inch or 2 off and you still wont screw up your gears.
this does not apply to side-to-side, only front to rear.
if you look carefully at Scotts pic above you will notice the front tire centered in the wheel opening while the rear is closer to the front of the opening
(off center). this is because longbed 2wd trucks are 122" wb and longbed 4x4s are only 120". Ford did not make 2 different 8 foot bedsides or floors, either on the flareside or the wrongbeds.

When I mounted the bed , I put what I thought was enough clearance in....
I have put 3000# on it
It squashed it down close, but did not rub while driving
