Carpet/Rubber mat underlayment options

Post by 69supercj »

Looking for ideas, cheap ideas, on what to use on the floor under the carpet or rubber mat to limit noise and provide insulation? I bought some foil backed bubble wrap used in HVAC installations and was going to use that but I'm just not sure how well this will hold up. I'd like to find something that would conform tightly against the nooks and crannies of the floor and firewall first and then maybe add the bubble wrap and then the carpet or rubber floor mat. Also looking to add the same stuff whatever it ends up being, to the inside of the doors as well. Anybody used bed liner for this?

I put a molded carpet in my 64. You can order it with or without a backing that is a sound deadener. I got mine with it. Could not be happier. The only thing that happened when I installed it was the aluminum trim piece that holds the carpet down was raised about a 1/4 of an inch due to the thickness of the carpet and the corners of the trim hit the doors and chipped the paint. All I needed to do was file the trim off so it did not touch. And then fix the chips.

I used this on my 67 F100... It made a big improvement on quieting road noise .

Read the reviews..

Did you use one of those or both?

I used both. The peel and seal went down first.. It seamed to be the same material as the butyl Fatmat that I've used before.

I used the peal & seal on my truck. Applied well to the floors, inside of doors and roof. The only draw back to this material is the asphault smell. It does mellow, & the gas smell from having an in cab fuel tank masks it pretty well anyway.
