I recently picked up my first Slick, a '65 that I am hopin' to drop about 5" mechanically. I'm not going to bag it at this point, and I'm not looking to do an entire front end swap just yet.
What I am looking for right now is what size tire can I put on the 15" steelies that I have that will look nice and low and tuck inside the fenders when I drop it. I have heard not to go much wider than a 225 on the front without power steering, and I would like to go as wide as I can without having to tub the bed ...
So I guess the question is: What are you guys running on a 15" wheel, and what's it look like? Pics appreciated!
Jim

Re: Lowered '65 need tire advice ... and pics
Was unable to upload pics thanks to my piece of junk LG phone but I just lowered my '66 in the front with DJM Dream Beams and I can tell you that the 235 50 15 tires on 7" wide wheels will not quite clear the fender lip in the event of considerable suspension compression. I've got about 1 1/2" of space between the top of the sidewall to the bottom of the fender (wheel lip). On the back, I haven't yet lowered, but I've got 275 60 15's on an 8" wheel with a substantial offset (deep dish) and it appears that the tire will easily clear the fender lip once lowered to level the truck. If I remember correctly DJM claims about a 2 1/2 to 3 inch drop, I'd say mine was lowered about 2 1/2" although I never measured before vs. after.

My '66 was lowered with cut springs in front and de-arched springs in rear. 275/60R15 rear on an 8" wheel and 205/75R15 fronts on a 7" wheel. No rubbing anywhere.

Thanks for replies, and the pics! That's what I need. I'm trying to find out what look I get with what tire/wheel combo and what lowering method.
Keep 'em coming please!

Re: Lowered '65 need tire advice ... and pics
Lm14 do you have 8 inch or 8.5 on the rear of your truck ? I have the same wheels and had to get 8.5 x15 with -24mm offset and I am worried I may rub now my truck is a 62 wrong bed and rite now has 8 inch steelies with 255 70 15 tires I am gonna run the same rubber but may have to roll the lip under the quarter and maybee pull the quarter out a bit . Would you think. You would have room for .75 wider rubber on your truck? None of this may even matter on account of our beds are different I will post a picture if I am able

15x7 reversed in the front. 15x7 reversed out back. I'd have to use standard offset wheels up front if Iwanted to lower it more. (Which I do) 235/75r15's all the way around.
