When I put the mid 80s od in my 65 it went into a short bed so I did not have to worry about the center bearing. You are either going to have to rebuild or replace what you have. Going with the od unit gives you the same ratios plu a .7:1 fourth to save gas. If your truck does not already have the removal able section for the floor, you'll need that as well.

Make sure your linkage is adjusted properly, and it's getting put fully into gear.

Jumping out of second under decel is often caused by a bent shift fork, you could try swapping the shift fork out for another....

Save your money and do not buy new hood hinges . I have a set of the new hinges you can have for the ride. They are flimsy and basically not worth the effort needed to install them. I cleaned up my old bent ones and they work better than the "new" replacements. So like I said shoot me a PM and I'll send them to you for the ride.

I have two or three of those transmissions laying around, but I'm in Illinois. I don't see a problem with finding one, I think later trannies will bolt right in.

If you shut off the truck will it go into reverse? Can you shut it off, put it in reverse then restart it and back up? If so, it's a syncro or clutch adjustment issue.

Let the clutch out slightly and try reverse. Reverse never has synchros, so you must just be hitting high spots on high spots and need to rotate on of them a little.
