I put a 78 Camaro subframe in my 61. It worked great for me.

Another well known truck here has a Camaro sub-frame, and I have no doubt if it had serious deficiencies, it would no longer be there .

I put a Camaro sub-frame in my truck and haven't had any problems with it. It drives and rides very well so no complaints.
But, if I had to do it over again, I wouldn't use it. The only reason why is that I wouldn't want to cut the frame again. I reinforced the frame so I am not worried about that but I didn't like cutting the frame. The Camaro sub-frame cuts off the frame stamped VIN so that means that that they have to use the VIN under the cab on the frame.
I would use JAG or Dakota if I had to do it over. I am using Jag in Nick's truck so the next one will probably be Dakota.

I am not a Fan on GM,,,, BUT Here is my :2cents: on Camaro I have used them , I have made templates so they all came out the same when I did it, some of the Camaro's have the bigger sway bars,,, I switched to the BIG GM Bolt Pattern off full size cars by using those A-Arms in which is 12" rotors they use and is 5 on 5 bolt pattern, then use the Mark V rear Disc Brake Rear end in which is also 5 on 5 bolt pattern,, also the Camaro sets the power steering gear box out front so that your steering linkage does not get into a bind and the chassis fits some of the Ford Engines better than the Ford Engines in a Ford Chassis, last truck I did I put 36,000 miles right away on it since it was easy to drive

I agree with Tom on some engines fitting well. My 4.6 4cam looks like it was always in there. The 4.6 is a rear sump and with the front steer Camaro, it all fit great.
The JAG is a different story with the rear steer. We are putting a 5.4 DOHC in Nick's truck and we had to get a different oil pan to make it clear the rear steering rack.

Quite a popular choice in the 70's for all the reasons mentioned. Another advantage was the ability to inexpensively accomodate the customer's desires for stance ranging from "in the weeds" to near original height. Aside from accurate surgery on the frame, you could basically "wheelbarrow" the suspension from the donor into place on the f100.

Paul I had a set of stands made so that all that I did came out the same way with about 4" off the bottom of the front bumper on the 53-56 trucks and back in the 70's you have the Camaro, Monte Carlo , Firebird to choose from, we put a 410 Mercury in the last one and it fir real good and with that Lincoln Rear it shifted in drive about 65-70

Tom, we had preset jigs and trams to make the conversions nearly foolproof. We were also doing the Don Hardy Vega conversions at the time, as well as some really questionable stuff such as Econoline straight axle under a big block Dart, and a corvair Rampside with a big block.
Btw, I don't remember the Monte Carlo having a sub-frame????
