Panhead, I think the fancy 62-63 grills are chrome, The aluminum ones started in 64....and they dropped the factory chrome ones after the aluminum started. Hope I recall that right.

62 was the first year for aluminum and 63 was also aluminum,, on the 62 I have seen 2 different aluminum grills where in the nose piece was different One I saw was NOS @ a swap meet And was OK but because the way Ford wrapped it with a wire band it scratched it in the wrapper, I was the first one to take it out of the wrapper so I had to pass on that and that was 7 years ago , never saw another one again that was NOS

My uni came with the brite aluminum grill. Seems to be pretty fragile around the mounting tabs.

My research on getting something like this restored and dipped was that there were several places that cold restore it's shape but only a few places left in the country that could actually do the brite dip. Almost everyone I talked to farmed out their brite dip process. Several wanted to restore it, polish then coat with clear coat. That's what a lot are doing now. They admitted it doesn't look like the factory grill but it was the best they could do. Tends to make the grill look milky. The true brite dip process apparently uses some fairly nasty chemicals and EPA has killed off most shops.

If you find a decent used grill you can have it restored. King of Trim restored all of the aluminum trim on the '66 we restored including the grill. They strip, straighten, buff, and bright dip anodize the aluminum trim so that it looks better than new.

This guy seems a little bit out of bounds, IMO, both on his pricing and descriptions. Only redeeming factor I see, is that for those going to Pate, he's right down the road. If those prices prevail, it may well be time for me to shed some inventory!
